The spikes are incoming.

Coupeville High School volleyball, which has racked up seven-straight winning seasons at the varsity level, is ready to kick off a new campaign.

The Wolves head to Oak Harbor Saturday for a jamboree, before hosting non-conference rival South Whidbey Sept. 6.

CHS, which has three consecutive second-place finishes since rejoining the Northwest 2B/1B League (trailing just four-time defending state champ La Conner) is at home for seven of its first nine matches.

Coupeville’s varsity squad is gunning for a league title.

The future is bright for the JV spikers.

Success breeds success.

“Do I have a driver’s license? Doesn’t matter, cause the cops will never catch me!!” (Photos by JohnsPhotos.net)

“Brakes? Where we’re going, we don’t need brakes.”

Well, OK, maybe they had brakes after all, but that didn’t stop young racers from picking up some speed flying down Oak Harbor’s hills.

The North Whidbey Sunrise Rotary Club held its 31st annual Challenge Series Saturday, which raises money for special needs families in the community.

Two young drivers team up in each car, with gravity helping to send the vehicles careening towards the finish line.

Back on Whidbey after a summer trek across America’s backroads, photographer John Fisken was front and center to snap pics, which he shares with us here.

If you golf, the paparazzi will be there.

Responding to the thunk of drivers hitting balls, and the gentle sizzle of hotdogs on the grill, wanderin’ camera clicker John Fisken haunted the Whidbey Golf Course recently.

The links were abuzz thanks to an annual fundraiser for Oak Harbor High School athletics, with a considerable crowd in attendance.

The pics seen above and below have at least one Coupeville connection to make them semi-relevant to a blog which doesn’t normally cover the Wildcats all that closely.

Plus, I’m not going to say no thanks to free photos, am I?

Not likely.

They’re in the swing of things.

With another season of Central Whidbey Little League action playing out, there’s still time for group photos.

The pics above and below come to us courtesy John Fisken, and, as always, are super, super serious.

It was warm, at least by Coupeville standards.

Braving blue skies and sizzlin’ sun rays Saturday, Coupeville High School track and field stars put on a show during the District 1/2 championships.

The Wolves captured girls and boys team titles, sparked by 18 wins spread among its many athletes.

Along for the ride was Diet Coke-sipping cameraman John Fisken, who, fueled by caffeine, snapped a metric ton of pics.

He’s responsible for the ones seen above and below, but that’s just the tip of the photographic iceberg.

Claire Mayne demonstrates the proper form, where you don’t knock the hurdles over.
