He’s passed the halfway point.

Coupeville’s Danny Conlisk competed in his fifth collegiate track meet Saturday, running at the Ted Nelson Classic in Mankato, Minnesota.

The former Wolf star, now a freshman at the South Dakota School of Mines & Technology, has an eight-meet schedule for the indoor part of the season.

Then, after a month-long break (from competition, not training) Conlisk and the rest of the Hardrockers head outside, where it’s hopefully warmed up a bit.

Saturday, the CHS grad competed in two events, running the 400 and carrying the baton as part of the 4 x 4 crew.

Conlisk and his relay squad claimed 3rd, combining to run the event in three minutes, 28.13 seconds.

The Hardrocker freshman also finished 20th (out of 42 competitors) in the 400, hitting the line in 52.80 seconds, just off his college PR of 52.40.

He was second in his heat.

SDSM&T returns to action next weekend, when the ‘Rockers head to Brookings, South Dakota for the SDSU Indoor Classic, which runs February 14-15.

After that, Conlisk and Co. have the Stinger Open Feb. 22 at Black Hills State University, then the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Indoor Championships Feb. 28-29 in Colorado Springs.

The first outdoor meet is Mar. 27.

During his time at Coupeville High School, Conlisk set school records in the 100, 200, and 400, while winning state titles in the last two events.

Monica Vidoni has made big strides. Now, we can all help her make the biggest one.

The 2015 Coupeville High School grad, a three-sport athlete (volleyball, basketball, softball) for the Wolves, is planning to head to Minnesota for college.

She wants to attend Rainy River Community College in International Falls, with plans to play all three of her sports.

RRCC is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association and competes in the Minnesota Community College Conference.

Amy Briscoe has started a GoFundMe account to help Vidoni cover the cost of her plane ticket and is asking for the community’s help.

For all of those who have seen Monica grow and become a more confident young woman and athlete in the past year, this would be an excellent opportunity to help keep her rising for the top.

Amanda d'Almeida

Amanda d’Almeida

The showdown is coming.

Carleton College’s womens’ soccer squad, which includes Coupeville grad Amanda d’Almeida, is getting hot at the right time.

The Knights, coming off a 2-1 win Saturday over Augsburg College, are now 5-0-1 in league play, 8-3-1 overall. That puts them on a crash course to possibly play for the league title in two weeks.

Saturday, Oct. 25 Carleton will face off with Concordia College (6-0-1 in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) in Moorehead, Minnesota.

If the Knights can get past a pair of teams (Macalester College and Hamline University) that are both 1-4-1 currently, and barring any stumbles by Concordia, that would set up a rumble for the top spot in the 12-team league.

d’Almeida and her teammates would then wrap the regular season with matches against the University of St. Thomas (5-2) and St. Olaf College (3-2-1).

After having her playing time limited in the early going this season as she recovered from illness, the former Wolf star is now helping to anchor the Knights lineup, playing the full 90 minutes.

She’s played in 10 games, starting three, and has amassed 464 minutes on the pitch.
