Ready to let the spikes fly

One week until they’re unleashed on the world.

The spike-happy Coupeville Middle School volleyball players, who go 31 deep, open a new season Monday, Sept. 23 on the road in Granite Falls.

Two days later, the spikers make their home debut against King’s, and the 10-match season is well underway.

One change from previous years is the Wolves won’t play as separate 7th and 8th grade squads this time around.

Instead, there will be three teams (Levels 1, 2, and 3), with each team a mix of players from both grades.

CMS coaches Erin Locke and Sarah Lyngra will lead the following players:

CMS girls return to the gym

The benches will be full.

The rosters for Coupeville Middle School girls basketball go 30 deep, with 19 eighth-graders and 11 seven-graders set to kick off a new season Tuesday, Feb. 5 at home against South Whidbey.

The Wolves will be coached by Alex Evans (moving up to 8th from 7th) and Megan Smith (returning to run 7th after a season away).

New season, new hoop dreams!!

The shoes are squeaking on gym floors, the basketball is pounding on the hardwood, and the start of a new season is days away.

The Coupeville Middle School boys hoops squads are the first to take the floor this year, kicking off a 10-game season at home Monday, Nov. 5 at 3:15 against King’s.

Leading the way for the Wolves are 8th grade coach Dante Mitchell, returning for his second season as a CMS coach, and Greg White, who makes his debut as the 7th grade guru.

Wolf girls claim hardwood!!

A new season dawns.

The high school teams have wrapped up play, but the Coupeville Middle School girls basketball squads make their debut Thursday afternoon.

The young Wolves host Chimacum, with tip-off set for 3:15 PM.

Coupeville’s 7th graders, coached by first-year coach Alex Evans, kick things off, followed by “grizzled vet” Dustin Van Velkinburgh and his 8th grade squad.

The Wolves play a 10-game schedule, with other home games Mar. 1, 5, 15 and 19.

They’re 18 strong in the early going.

While players may still come and go, Coupeville Middle School boys basketball coaches Bob Martin and Dante Mitchell have a pretty good idea of what they’ll have to work with.

And what that is, is a fair amount of 8th graders (13) and a bare bones amount of 7th graders (just five).

Last year, it was the other way around, as the younger team was the well-stocked one.

With most of that crew staying with the game, Mitchell will have plenty of bodies to mix and match, while Martin is hustling to try and attract some more players to turn out.
