The Wolves react to a big play.

One last deep dive into the world of stats awaits.

With fall sports having reached their conclusion this past Saturday, all the kills and digs have been added up for the Coupeville High School volleyball squad.

As expected, First Team All-League picks Chelsea Prescott and Kylie Chernikoff are among the leaders, but the numbers go 11 players deep.

So, marinate in all the assists and service aces, and then on to basketball season we go.

Boom go the bats, splat go the stats

They’re on a tear, and it shows on the stat sheet.

The Coupeville High School softball team has won seven of its last nine games heading into Tuesday’s regular-season finale at South Whidbey.

During that run the bats have been booming, and the runs have been shooting across home plate.

Seven starters are hitting .312 or better on the season, lead-off hitter Scout Smith has scored 35 times in 18 games, and, as a team, the Wolves have smacked nine home runs.

Well, 10 if you count the one a blind ump stole from Nicole Laxton…

As you prepare for Tuesday’s game, and the district tourney out there on the horizon, take a gander at season-to-date numbers:

Time to round up those stats

The season’s not complete without one final swing through the stat sheet.

The Coupeville High School baseball squad exited the playoffs Saturday, after pushing a pair of league champs hard.

With the losses to Northwest Conference kingpin Meridian and Emerald City League bigwig Overlake, the Wolves finished 7-14.

That was a big comeback, though, as Coupeville started the season 0-12.

A 4-3 win over arch-rival South Whidbey snapped the skid — and eventually denied the Falcons a chance to win the North Sound Conference title — and kicked off a seven-game winning streak.

CHS swept three-game sets from Sultan and Granite Falls to snare the final NSC playoff berth.

As they pack up the uniforms, bats, and balls until next spring, a look at final individual stats:

Keep track of the hit parade

Stats don’t always tell the whole story, but they do tell an interesting one.

Watching the numbers ebb and flow over the course of a season gives you a pretty good idea of who’s hot, who’s trying to find their rhythm, and who’s just downright dangerous.

The Coupeville High School softball squad is surging in the race for a North Sound Conference title, so it’s time to pop back in and take a look at where its 12 varsity players stand in the stats race.

“The Torpedo” detonates!!

“The Torpedo” just blew up 20 years of history.

Coupeville High School junior Sean Toomey-Stout, returning to the gridiron after missing the final five weeks of last season, could not be contained Friday by host Port Townsend.

By the time he was done, the Wolves had thrashed the RedHawks 28-18, and Toomey-Stout had racked up 321 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries.

That tops Coupeville’s single-game mark of 320, set by Ian Barron in 1998 against La Conner.

It was the third-oldest single-game record on the school’s big board, trailing only Scott McMartin’s 27 tackles in ’81 and Chad Gale’s 202-yard receiving night in ’87.

Barron still holds five other CHS records, including most rushing TD’s in a game (6), season (16) and career (37) and most rushing yards in a season (1,753) and career (4,713).

That last number is even more impressive as injuries in two separate seasons combined to rob Barron of 10 total games.

So, he got those 4,713 yards in the equivalent of three full seasons.

For the moment, though, the spotlight is firmly on Toomey-Stout, who has returned even faster and stronger than he was a season ago.

While big brother Cameron is no longer lining up next to him on kickoff coverage, having headed off to college, Sean’s twin sister Maya, moms Beth Stout and Lisa Toomey and the bonkers Torpedo Fan Club keep the stands rockin’.

As Toomey-Stout and his teammates prep for week two (Vashon comes to Coupeville Friday for a 6 PM kickoff), a look at all the stats from opening night:
