Plan ahead, look back

Homecoming week is upon us.

While the festivities will draw a lot of attention, there are still games to be played, and three of four Coupeville High School teams will compete on their home turf in the week ahead.

Co-ed soccer is the lone Wolf squad with a bumpy bus ride in their near future, as the booters travel to Bothell Tuesday to face Providence Classical Christian.

Meanwhile, the CHS cross country team hosts its lone home meet Wednesday at Fort Casey State Park.

The undefeated Wolf volleyball team is at home Thursday for a bout with Orcas Island, while Coupeville’s gridiron squad returns to Mickey Clark Field Friday night.

The foe is Friday Harbor, and as mentioned before, it’s Homecoming, with royalty and whatnot mingling with football.

Vacation beckons, games fade away

The upcoming schedule is kind of light.

As in, there are no Coupeville High School games next week.

With spring break arriving, all four Wolf spring sports programs go into slow-down mode for a couple days, with practices but no contests against rival schools.

Which means it’ll probably be sunshine and warm temps all week, with the rain, wind, and cold returning when Coupeville athletes do starting April 8.

Weather warms, action heats up

We’re in the thick of things now.

Spring sports are fully up and going, and the week ahead presents Coupeville High School fans with many viewing options.

Wolf baseball is at home twice, hosting Friday Harbor Tuesday, then welcoming Mount Vernon Christian to town Friday.

Meanwhile CHS softball has a split schedule.

The diamond women host Friday Harbor Tuesday, then travel to Blaine for the first of three-straight games on the road.

Track and field have a similar setup, hosting a Northwest 2B/1B League meet Wednesday, before venturing off to Stanwood Saturday for a freshman/sophomore invitational.

And Wolf girls’ tennis?

The netters are on the road all season, as they wait for new tennis courts to be finished.

Next week sees Coupeville’s hardcourt warriors visiting Granite Falls Friday.

As things really begin to heat up, a look at where early win/loss records sit through Mar. 17:

A final glance, then frozen forever

This is where one road ends.

Hardwood playoff action rolls on, but today’s look at Northwest 2B/1B League win/loss records is our final one.

For basketball season, at least.

With regular season games done, the final league standings are forever frozen in time, with the Coupeville and La Conner boys sharing a crown, while the Mount Vernon Christian girls stand alone.

For the Wolf boys, the playoffs begin Monday at Auburn Adventist Academy, then loop back to Cow Town for the remainder of the District 1/2 tourney.

For Coupeville’s girls, time to get ready for spring sports.

Playoffs loom, but business to finish

The end is near.

Of the regular season, that is.

There are only 13 games left on the schedule for Northwest 2B/1B League basketball teams, then it’s time for postseason action.

The conference’s 1B schools wrap regular-season play this coming week, while the 2B franchises — Coupeville, Friday Harbor, and La Conner — have two weeks left before the playoffs.

The games ahead will decide where, when, and if the Wolf hoops stars advance, though it’s all but a slam dunk for the CHS boys.

The Coupeville girls are still scrapping, and their home game with Friday Harbor this coming Friday, Feb. 2 will have a lot to say about the matter.

Win or lose, Megan Richter’s squad returns to its home court the following day, hosting Orting in a non-conference tilt.

After that, both CHS teams put a bow on the regular season with a road trip to La Conner Feb. 6.

As we hurtle towards the end line of one thing and the start line of something else, a look at where things sit through Jan. 28:
