Happy birthday, Emma Smith. The CHS junior hits the big 1-7 Monday. (Photos by JohnsPhotos.net)

And happy birthday to Mikayla Elfrank, who makes it a 2-for-1 special for Wolf spikers, turning 18 on the same day.

She’s back.

The iPad glitch which left sophomore Maya Toomey-Stout AWOL from the Coupeville High School volleyball stats has been fixed, and all is well in the universe.

As the Wolves, 3-1 on the season, prep for their first home match of the season, a titanic match-up with Klahowya Tuesday (4 PM tip), here’s an up-to-the-moment statistical overview.

Leading the way is Ashley Menges, the only Wolf to appear in the top 10 in two categories among all 1A players whose teams have reported stats to MaxPreps.

The junior setter is tied for #7 in service aces and sits #9 in assists.

Wolf junior Chris Battaglia is second on the team in rushing yards and tackles. (Photo by JohnsPhotos.net)

If football stats are like stocks, Chris Battaglia is trending upwards.

The Coupeville High School junior had his best rushing game of the season Friday, grinding away for 53 yards against a tough, beefy Nooksack Valley defense.

That gave the Wolf passing game a little breathing room, where Hunter Downes (194 yards) and Shane Losey (16) combined to break the 200-yard barrier.

The biggest beneficiary of their heaves was Hunter Smith, who hauled in four tosses for 130 yards.

As he continues to pile up game, season and career CHS football records for receiving yards and touchdowns, as well as interceptions, the senior standout is also inching up on another maybe less-noticed milestone.

Those four snags gives Smith 95 career receptions, putting him on the cusp of breaking triple digits.

He pulled in 32 as a sophomore, 49 as a junior and has 14 through this year’s first three games.

Also of note is the tackling stats of sophomore stud Sean Toomey-Stout.

He’s racked up 38 take-downs through three games, which puts him on pace for 127, not that far off the school single-season record.

That belongs to Joe Kelley, who collected 142 tackles during the 2001 campaign.

As Coupeville (2-1) prepares for its league opener against Charles Wright (2-1) this Friday (7 PM kickoff), let’s take a gander at the season-to-date stats, as compiled by CHS coaches and posted on MaxPreps.

Keep in mind, though, that when you look at where Wolf players are ranked, it comes with one caveat — not all teams in the state are actively reporting stats.

The charts are starting to expand.

Week two of the high school football season brought a 40-6 romp over La Conner, and, with it, several new names popped up on the Coupeville High School stat sheet.

From Jean Lund-Olsen, who had his first varsity carry (he sprinted around the right side for three yards) to Tyler McCalmont, who recorded his first three tackles of the season, the list grows.

The biggest jumper was Cameron Toomey-Stout, who hauled in 108 yards as a receiver Friday while scoring three touchdowns, two off of passes from Hunter Downes and one on a 70-yard kickoff return.

Hunter Smith broke the CHS career receiving yardage record Friday night, and missed the single-game mark by just two yards. (John Fisken photo)

Hunter Smith is coming for all the records. I said all of them!

The Coupeville High School senior now owns at least a share of five Wolf football records, and came within a measly two yards Friday night of getting a sixth one.

Smith hauled in seven passes for 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns to spark CHS to an 18-0 win over host South Whidbey.

His first catch of the night, a 12-yard reception, gave him the school’s career receiving yards record.

Chad Gale racked up 1,345 yards in the late ’80s, and Smith had 1,335 entering the 2017 season.

The record Smith narrowly missed was the single-game mark for receiving yards.

While his 200 yards topped his own personal best (178, which Smith hit once as a sophomore and once as a junior), Gale’s 202 yards from an ’87 game is still the gold standard … if just barely.

The quarterback flinging passes Smith’s way, senior Hunter Downes, threw for 310 yards, just 13 off his personal best (323 vs. Charles Wright as a junior).

The Hunter to Hunter connection was the big news, but plenty of other Wolves posted sterling stats in the opening night victory.

Jump back to 2012 and several of today’s Wolf softball stars like Katrina McGranahan (red shirt) were getting their start with the Dirt Devils. (Darren Crownover photo)

Forget about league MVP. Katrina McGranahan should be in the argument for All-State consideration.

The Coupeville High School junior pitcher, who has led the Wolves to a 17-3 record heading into the playoffs, is red-hot this season.

Among athletes whose coaches submit stats to MaxPreps, McGranahan sits in the top 10 among all 1A players in seven different categories.

In four of those she’s in the top 10 for the entire state, regardless of classification.

McGranahan’s resume:

Strikeouts (#1 in 1A, #9 in state)
Wins (#1 in 1A, #2 in state)
ERA (#6 in 1A)
Home runs (#4 in 1A)
RBI (#2 in 1A, #8 in state)
Runs (#3 in 1A)
Stolen bases (#2 in 1A, #3 in state)

And she’s not the only member of the high-flying Wolves to be posting big stats.

Junior shortstop Mikayla Elfrank is #7 in 1A in both home runs and stolen bases, while junior third-baseman Lauren Rose is #5 in runs and #7 in stolen bases.

Sophomore catcher Sarah Wright rounds out the top 10 appearances, currently sitting #5 in 1A in RBIs.

Coupeville opens the district playoffs May 19 against Vashon Island. While you’re waiting, a look at season-to-date offensive stats:
