Jump off to a roaring start

Taygin Jump

Year two is off to a strong start.

Coupeville High School grad Taygin Jump kicked off her sophomore season of college track and field with a stellar performance Saturday at the Saints Holiday Relays in Canton, New York.

The Plattsburgh State sophomore won a title in the weight throw, lobbing her implement 41 feet, 3.25 inches.

Jump also earned sixth place in the shot put, launching the ball 26-09.25.

Overall, she and her teammates finished second in the team standings at the six-team meet.

Plattsburgh returns to action after the holidays, getting back into competition Jan. 18 as the indoor track season begins to pick up full speed.

During her time in Coupeville, Jump, older sister of current Wolves Aleksia and Khanor, was a standout track and volleyball athlete.

Jump aces college classes

A star athlete, a star student.

Coupeville grad Taygin Jump, who shone brightly for the Plattsburgh State track and field team, also excelled in the classroom.

The Cardinal freshman, who is majoring in geology, earned a slot on the Commissioner’s Academic Honor Roll for the State University of New York Athletic Conference.

To land the honor, a student/athlete needed to compile a 3.3 or higher cumulative grade point average.

When she wasn’t hitting the books, Jump was busy flinging implements of all sizes and shapes.

The former Wolf competed in the hammer, javelin, shot put, and weight throw while competing in both indoor and outdoor seasons.

Jump won three times, while racking up 10 top-five finishes during her first season of collegiate athletics.

Like a boss, start to finish

Taygin Jump came in like a wrecking ball and went out like a star.

The Coupeville grad capped her freshman track and field season at Plattsburgh State Friday with a stellar performance at the State University of New York Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships.

Competing in Geneseo, Jump claimed seventh place in the javelin, earning points for the Cardinals.

She threw her implement 102 feet, eight inches.

That was one of two events Jump lined up for at SUNYAC, also finishing 18th in the hammer throw with a lob of 115-00.

During her freshman collegiate season, the former Wolf vied in numerous events, participating in both indoor and outdoor track seasons.

During her time at CHS, Aleksia and Khanor’s older sister played volleyball, both in school and with her club team, while also competing in track and field.

Wolf grads throwin’ across the USA

East coast to West coast, there’s a former Wolf throwing everywhere.

Coupeville grads Taygin Jump and Logan Martin were both in action at the collegiate level Friday, with the former in New York and the latter in Oregon.

Jump, a freshman at Plattsburgh State, was at the RPI Under the Lights Invitational in Troy, where she finished seventh in the javelin (out of 22 competitors) and 8th in the hammer throw (out of 24 chuckers).

Her throws landed 83 feet, two inches, and 112-06, respectively.

Meanwhile, Martin, a Central Washington University sophomore, was busy at the Larry Byerly Invite in Clackamas, a day after competing in Spokane.

He earned fourth in a 33-man field in the hammer throw Friday, lobbing the implement 174-01.

During their CHS days, both former Wolf aces were multi-sport stars.

Jump played volleyball in addition to her track and field activities, while Martin was on tennis, basketball, and soccer squads before earning three second-place performances at the state track meet his senior season.

Wolf grads sparkle across the USA

Two on the track, one on the water.

Coupeville High School alumni were busy Saturday, competing in college sports events around the country.

How they did:

 

Taygin Jump:

A freshman at Plattsburgh State, she competed at the Pioneer Spring Invite in Utica, scoring points for her team in the hammer throw.

Jump tossed the implement 37.30 meters to claim seventh place, while also lobbing the shot put 8.62 meters.

If there was an extra skip in her step, it’s because the former Wolf was recently honored as one of Plattsburgh’s Cardinals of the Week.

The honor was for Jump’s performance at the Saints Icebreaker meet March 30, where she won both the hammer and javelin.

 

Lucy Sandahl:

The Seattle Pacific University senior was in the varsity 8+ boat as coxswain as the Falcon rowers plied the water at the Pioneer/Pilot Invitational in Vancouver, Washington.

The day’s racing was shortened by weather which caused rough conditions, but SPU was strong in all four of its events.

Sandahl and company competed against Great Northwest Athletic Conference rivals Western Washington and Cal Poly Humboldt.

 

Tate Wyman:

The former Wolf, now a freshman at Oregon Tech, set PRs in both of his events at the Humboldt Invitational in Arcata, California.

Wyman hit the tape in 16.51 seconds in the 110 hurdles, claiming third place, then finished 12th (out of 26 competitors) in the 200 in 23.85.
