They’re trending upward.

Sitting at 11-1, with just a one-run loss to a 3A school marring their perfect record, the Coupeville High School softball team continues to rise in the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association RPI rankings.

After cracking the top 10 last week, the Wolves move up one slot to #9 among 2B schools in rankings released Wednesday by the WIAA.

Up next for Aaron Lucero’s sluggers is a home nonconference doubleheader Saturday against always-testy Forks.

They’re on a rocket ship.

Jumping seven spots, the Coupeville High School softball squad has cracked the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association Top 10 RPI rankings for the first time this season.

Coming off a 20-0 win at La Conner Tuesday, the Wolves sit at 8-1 on the season and are ranked #10 among 2B schools.

That includes wins over two 1A rivals (East Jefferson and Meridian) and a 2A squad (Lakewood), with their only loss a one-run defeat to 3A Oak Harbor.

Aaron Lucero’s sluggers play their next six games at home on the prairie, starting with a Thursday rematch with La Conner.

The fab frosh is getting her flowers.

Fastball-flinging Coupeville High School softball pitcher Adeline Maynes was honored Thursday by the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, named as one of its Athletes of the Week.

The WIAA honors male and female athletes from all classifications (4A-1B) throughout the school year.

Maynes, who is already in her second year as the ace of the Wolf pitching staff, has been lights out as Coupeville has shot out to a 5-1 record to begin the new campaign.

The WIAA honor is for a two-game stretch where she tossed a one-hitter against East Jefferson, followed by a no-hitter against Meridian.

Over the two road games, Maynes whiffed 22 batters.

While she’s dominating the softball field once again this spring, the serene strikeout artist is a young woman of many talents.

She plays volleyball and basketball for the Wolves and is a straight-A student in the classroom.

They keep running up that hill.

Step by step, the Coupeville High School varsity volleyball squad has put together an impressive 13-0 run this season, defeating everyone who steps to them.

Now, the Wolves have jumped up to #2 among all 2B schools in the latest RPI rankings from the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association.

With one regular season match left on the schedule — a Senior Night showdown with 2A Sultan Monday, Nov. 4 — CHS is getting its props.

And that could pay off down the road, as RPI rankings are one of the things considered when teams are seeded for the state tournament.

But that’s a discussion for another day.

For now, it’s enough for the Wolves to bask in the moment.

The rest of the world caught up to Coupeville and realized Elizabeth Bitting is a gem.

The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association, working with the U.S. Army, has hailed the Wolf running guru in its salute to coaches for October.

Bitting was one of six prep leaders honored for showcasing values such as loyalty, duty, respect, selfless service, honor, integrity, and personal courage.

Among the peppiest of all coaches, she has inspired countless cross country and track athletes at both the middle and high school levels during her time in Coupeville.
