Then this is your lucky day.

Coupeville High School cheerleaders are currently selling tickets for a pancake fundraiser benefit set for Saturday, June 18 at Applebees.

Cost is $10 per person and that gets you pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage and a beverage.

Rockin' Robin Cedillo and her prairie. (John Fisken photo)

Rockin’ Robin Cedillo and her prairie. (John Fisken photo)

One of the enduring images of this spring came as I was walking back to my car after a CHS baseball game.

Robin Cedillo and Jake Hoagland were walking ahead of me, both wearing their respective uniforms — one for softball, one for baseball — both carrying bats slung over their back.

As they walked and talked, their bats clinked against each other and it was like a freakin’ Norman Rockwell painting come to life. Seriously.

Ballplayers on a Summer Afternoon, or something like that.

And it was, pretty much, a perfect summation of the duo, who are two of the nicest young athletes currently playing in Cow Town.

Since it’s Robin’s birthday, we’re gonna forget about Jake for the moment and focus on the athlete with the braids and the smile which could power an entire prairie on its own.

Miss Cedillo is a walking, talking ray of sunshine, a hard-working, successful, strong young woman who always seems to get a great deal of enjoyment out of her athletic pursuits.

Whether she’s putting in work on the softball field or on the football and basketball sidelines as a cheerleader (she was a captain during hoops season), Robin is one of my personal favorites.

She’s talented, sure, and it was nice to see her take huge strides on the diamond this past season.

Pulling a fair amount of duty in right field, Cedillo proved to be an able, sometimes inspired fielder who would charge balls and make plays, as opposed to sitting back and waiting on them.

At the plate, she swung with more aggression this season and she was quick and dangerous when on the base-paths, while always being one of those players who lock on their coaches with a laser-like focus when they’re in the middle of a discussion.

It’s apparent Cedillo is working on her game, fine-tuning her skills and finding her strengths, and she does so with a passion for the game and her teammates.

As a cheerleader, she has few equals.

Some people are just born with more spirit than others, and there is little doubt it flows through Robin day and night.

Firing off routines with crispness, commanding her fellow cheerleaders without being abrasive, she channels the energy which resides in her soul and shoots it through everyone in the crowd.

Take her away from sports, and Rockin’ Robin is still a fireball, a regular on the school Honor Roll and, as I said before, simply one of the nicest people you are likely to meet.

I assume she’ll be spending most of her cake day being bombarded with well-wishes, all of which she deserves.

But toss this somewhere on the pile — Miss Cedillo, you are a phenomenal young woman, and your fan club grows by the day.

Happy birthday, and thank you for being just plain awesome.

Parting is such sweet sorrow.

As she nears the end of her year on Whidbey Island, Brazilian foreign exchange student Julia Borges is fondly looking back at her time on The Rock.

After arriving from Sao Paolo, she immediately became a huge part of Wolf Nation, joining the Coupeville High School cheer squad, where she participated through football and basketball season.

When the spring arrived, Borges picked up a racket and joined the Wolf girls’ tennis team, teaming up with Julianne Sem to form a dangerous doubles duo.

With her run as a CHS athlete having reached an end, Julia took a few moments to reflect on the experience for us:

Last week was my last week playing for the tennis team and I already miss it so much!

I can definitely say I had the best experience I could have with both activities I joined this year: doing cheer or playing tennis, both with awesome teammates and amazing coaches.

Coupeville can be a small school, but the dedication, hard work and love everyone puts into sports are the biggest ones I have seen.

It is awesome how most of the students are involved in at least one sport during the year and they all really care about it.

It can be something very normal here, but it does not happen everywhere.

This is one in a hundred reasons about why I love Coupeville so much.

It is going to be hard to leave all of this in a month, the place I can call my home!

They are loud ‘n proud, two pint-sized wonders who pack a big cheer punch.

Coupeville High School cheerleaders Maddy Neitzel and Julie Bucio are separated by a couple of years in age (the former is a senior, the latter a freshman), but they’re united by their birthday and their bright, shining spirits.

You couldn’t ask for two friendlier, more outgoing, smart and kind young women to rep our town.

As key members of the Wolf cheer squad, the duo were front and center at a ton of games this school year, and they both radiated school spirit and a love for inspiring their classmates and local fans.

Working as hard as anyone at CHS, the duo, and their cheer teammates, have consistently proven they should be viewed in the same light as other Wolf athletes, since that’s what they are — athletes.

Away from the arena, both display big skills in the classroom (science calls to Bucio while Neitzel is all about art), and, when I interviewed them for articles, a love of family was what drove both of these strong young women.

As the duo celebrate their joint cake day, we, the fans who see a slice of their lives play out in front of us, want to send both of them big happy birthday wishes.

Maddy, Julie, you are both amazing and I have no doubt you will continue to scale new heights as you move forward with your lives.

Happy birthday, ladies!

Heather Nastali was one of 10 letter winners.

Wolf sophomore Heather Nastali has been earning money to pay for summer cheer camp, but could use a little boost to get over the top. (John Fisken photo)

Want to help one of Coupeville’s best and brightest?

Then now’s a great time, as Wolf sophomore Heather Nastali needs a little financial bump to reach an important goal.

Nastali, who’s a cheerleader and softball slugger at CHS, has been raising money for summer cheer camp.

She’s raised half the $400 she needs by mowing lawns, weeding gardens and taking care of people’s pets.

Now, as she closes in on her goal of joining her teammates, Nastali has started a GoFundMe page to get up over the top.

The camp, put on by the United Cheer Association, teachers high school cheerleaders new routines and cheers, with an emphasis on preaching safety when stunting.

Nastali will be in her second year on the Wolf cheer squad, but this would be her first chance to attend summer camp with the team.

She has two weeks to raise the remainder of the money, as it has to be turned in by May 1.
