“Don’t let my dad hear about the cupcakes or…”

Too late.

Too late.

I’m just going to say it — Lauren Rose and Kyla Briscoe may be the best people in the entire world.

What? You think just because they gave me a free cupcake at Monday’s Coupeville Middle School girls’ basketball home finale, I would say something like that?

I am offended, sir! Deeply offended that you would think I could be bought for chocolate cake and frosting and … yeah, I’m busy right now.

Go away. Take your petty accusations elsewhere, so that I might focus on my cupcake.

Lauren and Kyla. Best people ever. End of story.

The man, the myth, the legend.

“Psst … hey ref. See my sign? They like me more than you. Yeah, put that in your fancy whistle and blow on it…”

They were loud and they were proud.

With many of them waving homemade signs, Coupeville High School students rocked the gym Thursday night, willing on their girl’s basketball team to its first playoff win in at least five seasons.

They were creative. They were inspired. And, most of all, they brought both the noise and the funk back to the CHS gym.

Wolf fans, hear them roar.

hawk3hawk6hawk1hawk2This entire state is going to explode if the Seattle Seahawks win the Super Bowl.

Or, have the biggest, nastiest Monday morning hangover of all time, if Peyton Manning deflates your hopes and dreams.

Either way, as a die-hard, life-long fan of the six-time Lombardi trophy-winning Pittsburgh Steelers (hey … stop throwing things at me. I’d get a better reception if I said I dealt meth…), I think it’s cute you’re all getting so worked up over a team that hasn’t won anything yet.

But, since the Steelers will be sitting at home this Sunday, you can rant and rave all you want Hawk fans. You’ve earned it.

Now, how do we all feel about Richard Sherman jumping ship and playing for the Steelers? I, for one, think it’s a dandy idea.

Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller? Anyone?

It’s basketball night in America.

Friday night arrives, and, with it, comes the return of roundball, as all four Coupeville High School hoops squads jump into action.

The Wolf boys (2-11) are on the road at Lakewood, while the CHS girls (6-7) play host to the Cougars at home (JV tips at 5 PM, varsity at 6:45).

The gentlemen of the hardwood will play two games in less than 24 hours, as Coupeville will host King’s Saturday (2:30/4) in a game originally scheduled for the end of the season.

Then next week is the return of doubleheader delights, as the Wolf squads have back-to-back double dips, traveling to South Whidbey Tuesday, before welcoming non-conference foe Friday Harbor Wednesday.

To get you primed, we offer a few random photos for your viewing pleasure. See if you can guess the theme.
