Take a bite and help Coupeville schoolchildren.

Five local chefs are joining together to present “A Tonic to Winter” — a gourmet dinner which will fundraise for the Community Foundation for Coupeville Public Schools.

The event is set for Wednesday, Feb. 25 and will go down at Gordon’s Fusion Cuisine, which is located at 103 NW Coveland.

Seats are limited, with 30 tickets left as of Wednesday morning.

Cost for the five-course meal, which includes two appetizers, two entrees (meat and fish), and dessert, is $150 per person, with all tickets sold online.

The featured chefs include Andreas Wurzrainer, Tyler Hanson, Sedrick Livingston, Ben Jones, and Gordon Stewart.

The night will include hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction featuring “unique Coupeville experiences,” and raffles.

Proceeds benefit The Boomerang Project, a student leadership program the Foundation and the schools are partnering to launch.

Everyone wins.

Well, technically, the girls beat the boys during Coupeville High School basketball’s annual toy drive.

So, Megan Richter and her program will have bragging rights and all.

But the real winners are the kids who will get toys during the holiday season, thanks to all the Wolf hoops stars, fans who donated, and Holiday House North, who will distribute the gifts.

Overall, the Wolf hardwood heroes collected more than 200 toys.

When the Coupeville High School basketball teams head to Langley Friday to mash on South Whidbey, fans are encouraged to bring toys with them.

SWHS is conducting its annual Holiday House Toy Drive and will have collection bins at both sites where games are being played.

The community stepped up big time in its support of its athletes.

The annual Coupeville Booster Club fundraiser dinner and auction snagged $26,000 this past weekend.

“I’m so humbled by the generosity of the community giving to our kids,” said Booster Club board member Danette Beckley.

The event was a true labor of love, with Beckley, Michelle Armstrong, and Jess Lucero leading the booster club side of things.

Current Wolf athletes, both at the middle and high school level, volunteered their time to work during the dinner as well.

Serendipity Catering provided the food, while community members donated sweet treats for the always-popular dessert auction.

There was also a silent auction, and a live one, with trips to Chelan and Maui, a Seahawk gift package (including game tickets), a “Pork-A-Palooza” event for eight, and a “Wheelbarrow of Booze” perfect for parties among the items up for grabs.

Coupeville Middle School 8th grader Chayse Van Velkinburgh has been picking up plenty of overseas soccer experience in the past couple of years, and he has an opportunity for much more.

The fleet-footed booter’s family has launched a GoFundMe to allow his supporters to help him raise the money necessary for a three-month full-time residency at the prestigious Madrid Euro Soccer Academy in Spain.
