Wolf Nation, help one of our own!!

Bord Langvold

Former Coupeville High School quarterback Gunnar Langvold’s father has passed away, and his family needs help with funeral expenses.

Bord Langvold, a longtime employee of the Washington State Ferry system, died Tuesday after years of battling debilitating medical conditions.

He had been medically unable to work since 2013, which put a financial strain on the family.

Gunnar, a two-year starter under center at CHS, is one of my personal favorites.

When I wasn’t covering his games or listening to his wild rambling tales, we worked together in the dish pits at Christopher’s on Whidbey.

I knew his dad for many years, as well, as Bord frequently haunted Videoville during my lazy, hazy video store years.

Swing for the fences!!

Let ‘er rip.

Coupeville High School softball sluggers will be swinging for the fences Mar. 11, in a bid to help better fund their program.

But before they take part in the team’s “1st Semi-Annual Hit-A-Thon” they’re out and about now, snagging donations.

You can sponsor a player or players and take your chances on their power with the bat or make a flat donation starting at $20.

During the Hit-A-Thon, each Wolf player will take 15 cuts at the plate, with their top two blasts (in fair territory) being added together for fundraising purchases.

So, if your favorite player were to park a ball 150 feet and another 200 feet, and you had pledged 10 cents per foot, you’d be coughing up $35 to keep CHS softball prospering.

You can also get in on the action yourself.

Pony up $5 and you can step into the batter’s box and get 10 swings of your own after the players have wrapped up their version of the home run derby.

Run to help those in need!!

Deb Smith spends a lot of time outside running.

Now the fitness enthusiast and Wolf mom is racing to lead an effort to help provide for homeless in Coupeville this holiday season.

She’s hoping to collect:

Tarps
Rope
Socks and gloves
Hats and beanies
Sleeping bags
Wool blankets
Hygiene items
Non-Perishable food items
Gift cards (food or coffee)

Smith would like to pull everything together by Dec. 18, and she plans to supplement everything with home-baked cookies as well.

Flapjack fever in the air!!

Pancakes are in your future.

Swing by Applebees in Oak Harbor this Saturday (Nov. 19) from 8-10 AM and you can get a solid meal while helping raise funds for the Coupeville High School Class of 2018.

Cost is $10 per plate, which gets you flapjacks, sausage, bacon, eggs and a beverage.

Tickets can be bought at the door Saturday or in advance from the following ’18ers:

We went full-bore.

Saturday night brought the biggest athletic fundraiser our town has each year — the famous Crab Feed and auction extravaganza — and we had not one, but two paparazzi on the scene.
