The Mount Vernon Christian girls soccer team can score from every angle.

And the Hurricanes don’t want you to forget about it.

Busting out double-digits scoring for the third time in six games this season, MVC crushed visiting Coupeville 14-0 Tuesday in a matchup of teams which both entered play undefeated in Northwest 2B/1B League play.

The wins lifts the Hurricanes to 2-0 in the NWL, 5-0-1 overall, while the Wolves slip to 1-1 in league play, 1-2 overall.

Mount Vernon Christian has outscored its foes 51-3 this season, having previously scored 12 goals on Auburn Adventist and 11 goals on Crosspoint Academy, traditionally a soccer powerhouse.

The Hurricanes, a 1B school, have also beaten 4A Mariner 7-0, and play a cross-town battle royal with 4A Mount Vernon this coming Saturday.

The only splotch on MVC’s record is a 2-2 tie with 1A Cedar Park Christian-Bothell.

Running up the score is something the Hurricanes are fond of, as they also outscored opponents 55-0 in a 6-0 run during a pandemic-altered season back in April and May.

Coupeville, which returns to action Thursday with a home non-conference matchup with Granite Falls (2-3-1), gets two more cracks at MVC.

The teams play on Whidbey Oct. 7, then face-off in Mount Vernon Oct. 20.

Kyle Nelson summed up his day in four words.

Asked how the Coupeville High School girls soccer team had done Saturday, the veteran coach kept his post-game comments crisp and clear.

“Well, not so great.”

Coming off a season-opening home win against league rival La Conner, the Wolves trekked off Whidbey for game two, and found a barrage of goals awaiting them.

Facing off with East Jefferson, the result of Chimacum and Port Townsend combining their sports programs, Coupeville’s booters fell 9-0.

The loss evens the early-season record at 1-1.

The Wolves get right back at it next week, with two games, neither of which are likely to be easy.

Coupeville hits the road Tuesday, Sept. 21 to face defending Northwest 2B/1B League champ Mount Vernon Christian, which was a juggernaut last season.

The Hurricanes have picked right back up where they left off and are 4-0-1 overall, 1-0 in league play this season.

CHS then hosts 1A Granite Falls (2-2-1) Thursday, Sept. 23 in a non-conference tilt.

Once unleashed, they couldn’t be stopped.

A mere 12 days after the season-opening jamboree, the Coupeville High School girls soccer team finally got to play a regular game Thursday night.

At which point the Wolves promptly brought the home fans to their feet with a stirring 4-2 win over Northwest 2B/1B League rival La Conner.

Coupeville jumped on the visiting Braves with an early goal, but found themselves trailing 2-1 at the half.

Responding to whatever words of wisdom were sent their way by coach Kyle Nelson, the Wolves responded, raining down scores after the break.

“It took us awhile to get into full game mode, but the second half was ours,” Nelson said.

Coupeville got goals from a trio of shooters, with senior Audrianna Shaw leading the way with a pair of scores.

Sophie Martin and Eryn Wood also hit the back of the net, with all three players looking to make a move up the CHS career scoring chart.

Thursday’s goal was the sixth in a Wolf uniform for Martin, who moves into a tie with Mallory Kortuem at #10 on the all-time list.

Five CHS girls have tallied double-digit scoring, ranging from Mia Littlejohn with 35 goals to Avalon Renninger, who punched in 12.

Wood has four career goals for the high school program, with Shaw sitting with three.

Saturday game site changed:

Coupeville returns to action Saturday with a road non-conference game against East Jefferson.

The game was originally set for Memorial Stadium in Port Townsend, but the field has a conflict, so things have been moved to Chimacum High School.

That school is located at 91 W. Valley Rd. in Chimacum.

Game time is 11 AM.

Crushing the South Whidbey Record without even trying.

Thanks to the recent plot development of wanderin’ photo whiz kid John Fisken snapping more pics of Falcon sports teams than usual, Coupeville Sports is fast becoming your primary source for looks at south end athletes in action.

This time around, it’s South Whidbey’s JV girls soccer team in action against Oak Harbor.

I don’t know names for most of the Falcon girls shown here, but I rarely, if ever, turn down free photos.

So, here you go.

And when you’re done here, consider popping over to Fisken’s web site and taking a look at everything he shot from the game.

“Onward to goal-scoring immortality!”

“I’ll just sneak right past you here. Pay no mind to me.”

“And where do you think you’re going, Mr. Soccer Ball?”

Kuschnereit uses her Jedi skills to make the ball hover above the pitch.
