CHS cross country ace Aleksia Jump shares a moment with her fan club president.

The prairie was abuzz with the sound of runners slicing through early morning fog, and cash hitting the bank account.

Saturday brought another edition of Race the Reserve — the biggest fundraiser for Coupeville’s senior class — to life, with the pics above and below showcasing a taste of what went down.

The pics come to us from a wide array of Wolf Moms, always doing my work for me and being greatly appreciated for it.

This is your time to join the movement.

Parents of students in the Coupeville High School Class of 2025 are ramping up for next month’s Race the Reserve and are looking for sponsors and people willing to donate for goodie bags.

The event, set for August 10, is the biggest fundraiser for each year’s graduating class.

Organizers are planning 300 goodie bags and are looking for a wide variety of things.

“Goodie bag items can be coupons, advertisements, lip balm, sunscreen, granola bars, anything really,” said Wolf Mom Christi Messner.

Donations need to be made by Aug. 5.

You can also sponsor the race, and the deadline for that is much closer, arriving this coming Wednesday, July 24.

Aidan Wilson (left) enjoys his moment atop the podium.

Aidan Wilson is still out there kicking butt and taking names.

The Coupeville grad, who won five state track and field medals as a Wolf, competed in his second Spartan Sprint race in Michigan this weekend and excelled.

Vying in the competitive class, he won his age group.

Spartan Sprint races send runners through a course where they have to evade obstacles, diving into mud, climbing up ropes, and jumping over fire.

Wilson and fellow competitors had to deal with 20 obstacles on a 5K course.

His triumph in the event continues a tradition of excellence, going back to his days as a multi-sport athlete at CHS.

During his time on Whidbey, Wilson more than earned his status as a Coupeville Sports Hall o’ Famer.

He participated in a mind-boggling 16 events as a Wolf track and field star, collecting 41 wins across three seasons.

Wilson brought home five state meet medals, earning three 2nd place finishes, capping his career by placing 7th out of 32 in a two-day, 10-event decathlon featuring competitors from every state classification.

One of only eight Wolf boys to earn as many as five state meet medals, it’s likely he would have gone higher on that list if real-world issues hadn’t restricted him to just two trips to the big dance.

The pandemic erased all spring sports when Wilson was a freshman, and the state meet was cancelled during his sophomore season as track officials limited how far schools could travel in the Age of Coronavirus.

Wilson also ran a season of cross country, while raining down goals on the soccer pitch.

He rattled the net for 10 goals as a senior, earning All-Conference First-Team honors, and finished his prep career with 13 scores, putting him #7 on Coupeville’s all-time boys’ soccer scoring chart.

Kenneth Jacobsen ran strongly Saturday. (Anna Jacobsen photo)

The summer running season is off to a great start.

Coupeville coaches have been welcoming 15-20 runners, covering high school and middle school athletes, to their runs.

And Saturday CHS sophomore Kenneth Jacobsen showed off his speed, claiming fourth overall, and first in his age group, at the Hustle With the Heroes 5K.

The 15-year-old was hot on the heels of three guys ages 35, 39, and 21, hitting the finish line in 22 minutes, 2.69 seconds.

Jacobsen was almost three minutes faster than any other teenager in the race.

And he wasn’t the only Wolf in the field, as sisters Allie and Annaliese Powers earned 16th and 17th overall among 74 finishers.

The siblings finished in 29:02.59 and 29:02.68, respectively.

Hustle With the Heroes, which started at Coupeville Elementary, featured a who’s-who of Island County first responders.

Represented were the Island County Sheriff’s Department, Oak Harbor Police Department, Washington State Patrol, Langley Police Department, South Whidbey Fire/EMS, Central Whidbey Island Fire and Rescue, North Whidbey Fire and Rescue, Oak Harbor Fire Department, WhidbeyHealth EMS, ICOM 911, and Life Flight Network.

Coupeville’s runners will continue to put in the work as the summer months play out, in anticipation of the return of school sports in the fall.

“Coach (Amber) Wyman and I have some great miles planned for them,” said CHS cross country guru Elizabeth Bitting. “Let summer begin!”
