Schedule your spring (in pencil)

It’s the trickiest season of them all.

Spring sports, which began Monday with the first day of practice, take place outdoors, where weather can have an outsize effect on things.

Will the prairie be buffeted by wind and rain? History says yes.

Will games be shuffled, often at the last second? History says yes.

Will we still write the schedules in ink, then regret that decision later? History says, were you not listening??

It’s a foolhardy plan we follow, but it’s too late to change now.

So, here are the Coupeville High School spring sports schedules, as of March 4, with a * indicating a league game.

Will everything still be in place by March 5? Best of luck on that.

Plan your fall days and nights

We’re five weeks away from the first game.

Summer, in all its muggy glory, is still in charge, but fall sports are not that far off for Coupeville High School athletes, coaches, and fans.

The first day of practice for football is Aug. 21, with soccer, cross country, cheer, and volleyball kicking things off Aug. 26.

The first game arrives Friday, Sept. 6 when the gridiron squad welcomes Annie Wright to Cow Town for a non-conference clash. After that, we’re back at it full-bore.

As you plan ahead, here’s what the schedules look like as of today, with * indicating a Northwest 2B/1B League game.

CMS harriers, spikers set schedules

Coupeville Middle School has released schedules for fall sports, and nothing, I say nothing, will cause any of this to change.

OK, that might be a small lie…

One never truly knows for sure school sports schedules will fully play out as planned until they actually do.

But we’re feeling pretty good about these two, so you can at least write down things in pencil, if maybe not in pen.

Wolf cross country kicks things off with the first day of practice Monday, August 26, while CMS volleyball gets underway Sept. 9.

Amber Wyman returns to coach the harriers, with Cris Matochi and Kristina Hooks back on the sidelines to impart wisdom to the spikers.

Everybody’s got a different setup.

A look at mostly official schedules for Coupeville High School fall sports teams showcase a variety of quirks based on which Northwest 2B/1B League schools play a certain sport.

How it breaks down, with * indicating a conference clash:

 

BOYS SOCCER:

Concrete and Darrington don’t suit up in this sport, while four outside schools — Lopez Island, Providence Classical Christian, Grace Academy, and Cedar Park Christian-Lynnwood — join the NWL for just boys’ soccer.

Coupeville has a 12-game schedule, but while all of the opponents are league foes, only one game against each rival counts in the conference standings.

So, first four tilts are treated as non-league affairs, with the final eight counting towards playoff seeding.

Coupeville Middle School has released mostly official schedules for its fall sports teams, though seasoned observers know that even the best plans sometimes get tweaked down the road.

The Wolves send volleyball spikers and cross country harriers into action, with the first competitions set for September.
