Wolf track alumni dazzle college fans

New weekend, new highlights.

Coupeville grads Tate Wyman and Taygin Jump, competing in different parts of the country, both delivered strong performances as collegiate track and field athletes this weekend.

The former, a junior at Oregon Tech, was at the Raider Invitational in Ashland, Oregon, while the latter, a junior at Plattsburgh State in New York, was busy at the Middlebury Invitational in Vermont.

Wyman delivered a 3rd place finish in the long jump, soaring 21 feet, 4.75 inches, and a 4th place performance in the triple jump, touching down at the 40-02.75 mark.

He also ran in the 100 (11.35 seconds) and 200 (23.12) while competing in the maximum four events.

Taygin Jump

Meanwhile Jump was busy chucking things, setting a PR in the hammer throw, where she launched her implement 135 feet, four inches to claim a 3rd place finish.

She rounded things out with 8th place finishes in the javelin (79-03) and discus (92-11), staying busy as the day unfolded.

When they’re not competing in the arena, Wyman and Jump are studying Embedded Systems Engineering Technology and Environmental Planning, respectively.

Has hammer, will throw

The odyssey continues.

Coupeville High School sophomore Khanor Jump competes alongside his Wolf track and field mates during normal meets, then heads off on his own one-man missions.

Since the hammer throw is not including in most Washington state prep meets, Taygin and Aleksia’s brother has been competing in a series of events hosted by Evergreen State College.

This past Sunday, in the fifth go-round this season, Khanor finished 6th, chucking his implement 119 feet, two inches.

That is his PR in the event, smashing his previous top throw by a solid two feet.

While the hammer throw is not part of the traditional WIAA state meet, the series culminates in a championship event of its own.

Last year, Khanor finished 22nd as a freshman, the second-best performance for a 9th grader.

Track stars stay home, pile up PRs

No bus and ferry for them.

Competing at home for the first time this spring, the Coupeville High School track and field team picked up four wins and 37 PRs Wednesday during an 11-team rumble at Mickey Clark Field.

On a partially sunny prairie afternoon, the Wolves got victories from Tamsin Ward (shot put), Cyrus Sparacio (1600), Davin Houston (high jump), and George Spear (3200).

It was the fourth win this season for both Ward and Sparacio, as the fab frosh continue to lead the way for CHS.

Meanwhile, wily vets Spear and Houston each collected their first victories of the spring, with the latter setting a PR in his event.

Overall, the La Conner boys and Mount Vernon Christian girls claimed team titles, with Coupeville finishing third and fourth, respectively.

Wednesday’s meet was the first in two weeks for the Wolves, who last saw competition back on April 1 in Mount Vernon.

Now that it’s back in action, Coupeville will stay busy, heading to North Kitsap Saturday for the 23-team Dave Snyder’s Lil’ Norway Meet.

That’s a detour, as CHS was originally slated to compete in the Forks Lion Club Invitational but will instead vie with a deep field including schools such as Auburn, Bethel, Port Angeles, and Klahowya.

Winners, one and all

Spring is sizzlin’.

Maybe not weather wise, where most events have played out in cold, gusty prairie wind, and the occasional burst of rain, but Coupeville High School sports teams are racking up wins.

Softball is 9-0, baseball sits at 7-2, and girls’ tennis is a solid 2-2, while track and field has battled for titles at every meet this season.

Who knows? At some point the sun may come out and stay out.

Until then, we have the pics seen above and below to warm up the souls of Wolf parents.

Fab four among best of the best

It’s hard to hold on to glory when you’re sitting.

Thanks to Spring Break, the Coupeville High School track and field team hasn’t competed since April 1 but returns to action this coming week with a pair of meets.

Being back in the mix will give the Wolves a chance to shore up, or better yet, move up, in the battle to have the best times and distances among 2B athletes across the state.

With no action this past week, CHS dipped from five top marks to four, as freshman Cyrus Sparacio saw his best time in the 3200 get edged by an active runner, dropping him from #10 to #11.

But fresh competition looms, starting with a home meet Wednesday, and the chase begins again.

As the Wolves prep to come off of a two-week shutdown, here’s where they currently land among the best in 2B through April 13:
