Wolf spikers fans for a day

It was the calm before the storm.

With their own trip to the district tourney a day away, several Coupeville High School volleyball players made an appearance at Oak Harbor’s match Tuesday night.

While the Wildcats fell in straight sets to visiting Ferndale, the atmosphere and excitement should help prep the Wolves for their own adventure.

On to La Conner!

On to play Auburn Adventist Academy at 5 PM Wednesday, where a win sends CHS into a 7:30 tilt against the host Braves, with a trip to state at stake.

The postseason arrives, in a hail of photos.

The Coupeville High School volleyball squad is off to La Conner Wednesday for the District 1/2 tourney.

Swing away for postseason glory

The Wolves need two wins in one night to advance to state.

Three teams enter, one exits with a ticket to state.

This year’s version of the district volleyball playoffs is a fairly streamlined affair, with just two matches being played.

Coupeville and Auburn Adventist Academy face off at 5 PM Wednesday, Nov. 3 at La Conner High School in a loser-out match to kick things off.

The winner returns to the floor at 7:30 to play the tourney hosts, who happen to be the two-time defending 2B state champs.

Barring a major upset, the Braves then head off to Yakima to defend their crown.

Coupeville fans already know La Conner well, but Auburn Adventist is a different thing.

The Falcons are the lone 2B school playing in the 1B Sea-Tac League, and finished third out of 10 schools this season.

Auburn handed the league’s top team, Crosspoint Academy, its only conference loss, yet was swept in straight sets by Coupeville’s Northwest 2B/1B League mate Darrington in a non-conference tilt.

With Coupeville having squashed the Loggers both times they played this season, that seems to be a positive for the Wolves.

But, it’s the playoffs, so anything goes.

Candy is dandy, spikes are better

The tradition lives.

Combining holiday spirit with getting ready for the district tournament, the Coupeville High School volleyball team brought out an assortment of Halloween costumes at a recent practice.

No word on whether they got treats in return for service aces.

Season of growth, season of triumph

Season one is in the books.

The Medaille College volleyball team’s win/loss record wasn’t quite what everyone might have hoped, but Coupeville grad Chelsea Prescott knocked it out of the park.

The former Wolf capped her freshman season at the Buffalo, New York school Saturday, filling up the stat sheet in a heartbreaker of a five-set loss.

Medaille rallied from two sets down, then hit a roadblock in the fifth set, falling 25-17, 25-23, 22-25, 23-25, 15-9 on the road against the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg.

The loss drops the Mavericks to 1-7 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play, 4-17 overall.

Saturday’s match was a battle for 7th place in the nine-team conference.

The top six teams, led by league champ Penn State-Behrend, are now off to the playoffs.

Prescott racked up 10 kills, two aces, a solo block, eight digs, and 13 points of offense in the season finale.

She started all 21 of her team’s matches, and played in all 70 sets, finishing her frosh campaign with 116 kills, 165 digs, 24 aces, 12 assists, three solo blocks, 11 block assists, and 148.5 points.

Prescott finished #2 among all Mavericks players for kills, digs, and points, #3 for block assists, and #4 for aces.
