Pitch awards rain down

The heart and soul of the defense took top honors.

Junior defender Nezi Keiper was tabbed as the Most Valuable Player Wednesday as the Coupeville High School girls soccer team closed out its season with an awards banquet.

Keiper and Audrianna Shaw shared Captain honors, with Shaw, Lily Leedy, Katelin McCormick, and Mary Milnes honored with Four-Year awards for playing every season of their high school career.

Freshman Ayden Wyman, who showed a nimble scoring touch, was tabbed Rookie of the Year.

Meanwhile, Noelle Daigneault took home Most Inspirational, and three Wolves shared Most Improved honors.

That latter award was shared by Maylin Steele, Ava Mitten, and Camryn Clark.

A final cheer for Wolf spirit leaders

Everyone was celebrated.

The Coupeville High School fall cheer squad capped its season Tuesday with a banquet, handing a letter and an award to everyone involved.

First-year Wolf coach Jennifer Morrell had 12 athletes on her roster.

Wolf pitch warriors net awards

Boys soccer is up first.

With fall sports officially ending Saturday for Coupeville High School — when three cross country runners compete at the state meet — Wolf coaches and athletes are starting to transition into awards season.

CHS coach Robert Wood and his 19 booters kicked things off Friday with a season-closing shindig.

Senior Xavier Murdy earned Ballon d’Or (best player) honors in voting by his teammates, while sophomore Nick Guay was honored with the Golden Boot for leading the Wolves in goals.

Cael Wilson, Andrew Williams, Aidan Wilson, and Murdy were tabbed as MVP’s, with Josh Guay locking down Most Improved Player honors.

In addition to pitch excellence, the Wolves were also feted for classroom work, with Scholar Athlete Awards handed out to players who recorded a 3.5 GPA or better.

There were six Wolves who nabbed that award, with Cameron Epp, Josh Guay, Nick Guay, Eddie Perera, Grant Steller, and Williams honored.

Coupeville players are also eligible for All-League consideration when Northwest 2B/1B League coaches conduct their voting later this month.

Booters honored for skill, endurance

Cael Wilson brings the thunder.

It’s the big bounce back.

From having the program cancelled, to unexpectedly returning to play, to handing out varsity letters to 14 players, Coupeville High School boys soccer had a topsy-turvy, but successful season.

The reborn Wolves got six games played on the pitch during a pandemic-altered campaign, and head coach Robert Wood acknowledged the effort and grit his players showed while awarding letters.

Senior Sam Wynn was honored with a four-year award for playing every season of his prep career, while Cael Wilson was noted for being the first 8th grader to ever score in a CHS boys soccer game.

Perfection, rewarded

A season of perfection ended with a shower of awards.

After rolling to a 12-0 mark in their pandemic-shortened introduction to the Northwest 2B/1B League, the Coupeville High School softball squad honored its players Friday night.

Gathering his team at the CHS field, head coach Kevin McGranahan handed out an assortment of awards, while lettering all 24 girls on the roster.

“All contributed in a varsity game, and I wanted to reward them for practicing for a year and only playing for five weeks,” he said.

Headlining the awards were junior pitcher Izzy Wells, named team MVP for her stellar work both in the pitcher’s circle and at the plate.

Seniors Mollie Bailey and Chelsea Prescott were tabbed as the Offensive MVP and Defensive MVP, respectively.
