Wolves showered with awards!!

   Sophomore Scout Smith brought home a varsity letter plus two awards from Monday’s season-ending basketball banquet.

One last run through the league, with honors.

The Coupeville High School girls basketball squad finished a four-year sojourn in the Olympic League, during which the Wolves went 33-3 in varsity play, by landing three players on the All-League team.

Lindsey Roberts and Sarah Wright were tabbed as First-Team All-Conference players when league coaches voted, while fellow junior Ema Smith received Honorable Mention.

The Wolves also claimed the league’s Sportsmanship award, while Port Townsend senior Kaitlyn Meek was MVP.

For CHS, the All-League honors were just the tip of the iceberg when coaches David and Amy King handed out awards Monday at a season-capping banquet.

Roberts, who led Coupeville in scoring and rebounding this season, took home Leader of the Pack, while she and senior Mikayla Elfrank, were honored as team captains.

Sophomores Scout Smith (varsity) and Tia Wurzrainer (JV) claimed the Wolf Paw Award while seniors Kyla Briscoe and Allison Wenzel copped Four Year Participation honors.

Amy Briscoe, who shepherded daughters Tiffany and Kyla through four years of CHS hoops, while also serving as de facto team mom, also took home some hardware.

The King’s bestowed the first P.O.S (Parent’s Outstanding Support) Award on her.

Netters put a bow on fall season!!

They played together from the start of their careers to the end.

So, it’s only fitting Coupeville High School seniors Joey Lippo and William Nelson capped their prep tennis run by sharing team MVP honors.

The doubles duo also earned Captain status Monday, along with fellow senior Nick Etzell, as the Wolves became the final fall squad to hold a postseason shindig.

Other award winners honored by longtime coach Ken Stange included Thane Peterson (Most Improved) and Harris Sinclair (Most Inspirational).

Big spikes, big rewards!!

It was a season-long celebration for the Wolves.

Payton Aparicio was a busy bee Tuesday night.

The Coupeville High School senior capped a stellar volleyball career by copping two awards, team MVP and “Spirit of a Wolf,” at her team’s awards banquet.

The shindig brought a close to the most successful season in program history since 2004.

Guided by second-year coach Cory Whitmore, CHS won a record-tying 13 matches.

It also captured a second-straight Olympic League crown (while winning all 27 sets it played in conference), advancing to state for the first time in 13 seasons.

Sophomore swing player Maya Toomey-Stout joined Aparicio as a double winner, bringing home Most Improved (varsity) and Most Inspirational (JV).

Senior Lauren Rose picked up Most Inspirational for the varsity.

In awards previously announced, Hope Lodell was the Olympic League MVP, with Mikayla Elfrank, Katrina McGranahan and Rose tabbed as First-Team All-Conference picks.

Coupeville’s JV team, which went 12-1 under first-year head coach Chris Smith (falling only to 2A Port Angeles), honored Emma Mathusek as MVP.

Lucy Sandahl shared Most Inspirational with Toomey-Stout, while Maddie Vondrak earned Most Improved.

A stunning season ended in gorgeous weather.

As the Coupeville High School softball squad capped its epic season Friday, long gone were the rain, wind and gloomy skies which lingered through almost every game this spring.

In their place were sunny skies and warm weather as the Wolves enjoyed an awards banquet, faced off with their parents on the diamond and celebrated their 19-5 season.

Kyla Briscoe never gave up, and her coaches noticed.

An off-season injury wiped away her volleyball season before it began, but the Coupeville High School junior, a two-year letter winner, was there with her squad every step of the way.

Briscoe’s dedication and hard work behind the scenes earned her the inaugural Spirit of a Wolf award bestowed by first-year CHS coach Cory Whitmore.

The award, given at a season-ending banquet Thursday, honors “a player that exemplifies what it means to be a Wolf – hard work, dedication, humility, service to the team ahead of themselves.”

Among the varsity players who were able to play during the program’s best season since 2004, senior Valen Trujillo took home MVP, while Lauren Rose was tabbed Most Inspirational and Sarah Wright claimed Most Improved.

Hannah Davidson (MVP), Maya Toomey-Stout (Most Inspirational) and Peytin Vondrak (Most Improved) took home JV honors.

Playing for coaches Kristin Bridges and Ashley Herndon, the young guns went a flawless 9-0 in 1A Olympic League play.

Tiffany Briscoe, Ally Roberts and Trujillo were honored for playing through all four years of high school, while Briscoe, Trujillo and Rose were captains.

Kailey Kellner received praise for her tireless work as team manager, as well.
