Sweet, sweet payback.

Avenging a narrow early-season loss, the Coupeville High School JV girls’ basketball squad caught fire Friday night, thrashing visiting Friday Harbor.

The first time the teams met, back in mid-December, the Wolverines came out on top 36-32.

This time around, it was all Wolves, all night long, as Kassie O’Neil’s pack rolled to a convincing 52-27 win.

The victory lifts CHS to 2-3 in Northwest 2B/1B League play, 5-6 overall, with two games left on the schedule.

The Wolves host Orting Saturday in a non-league rumble, then travel to La Conner next Tuesday, Feb. 6 for the season finale.

Friday night Coupeville blew out to a 16-8 lead at the first break, and never relented.

A 14-2 run in the second frame pushed the margin out to 30-10 at halftime, before the Wolves stretched the advantage to 46-21 through three quarters.

Coupeville spread its offense out, with Tenley Stuurmans leading the way with a game-high 18 points.

The Wolf 8th grader, along with several of her teammates, is pulling double duty right now.

They’re wrapping up their debut high school season while also practicing for the start of middle school hoops, which opens play Feb. 8 at home against South Whidbey.

Bryley Gilbert, who slapped home most of her points in the first half Friday, finished with 14 to back up Stuurmans, while Adie Maynes and Haylee Armstrong rippled the net for eight apiece.

Capri Anter and Ava Lucero banked in a bucket each to round out the scoring, while Taylor Marrs, Chelsi Stevens, Lexis Drake, and Ari Cunningham also saw floor time for the Wolves.

The numbers keep trending up.

Heading into a busy week of basketball, there are now eight Wolves who have cracked 100 points this season — six boys and two girls.

Logan Downes, who reached #1 on the Coupeville High School boys’ basketball career scoring chart Saturday, is, not surprisingly, our top scorer this season.

Sitting at #2 is sophomore Camden Glover, who leads an explosive JV squad which features three 100+ point scorers, and two more guys close to joining them.

Overall, CHS hoops stars have combined to rain down 2,237 points this season, of which 2,211 are fully accounted for in our stats watch.

Haylee Armstrong dares you to try and stop her. Spoiler: You can’t. (Photos by JohnsPhotos.net)

Haylee Armstrong went off.

The Coupeville High School freshman exploded for 17 of her game-high 20 points in the third quarter Tuesday, propelling the Wolf JV to a 46-18 scorching of visiting Forks.

The non-conference win lifts CHS to 2-4 heading into the holiday break.

While their varsity counterparts head East for a pair of holiday games, the Wolf JV is now off until Jan. 5.

Kassie O’Neill’s band of young ballhawks utterly destroyed Forks after a fairly close first quarter.

The Spartans actually led 9-7 at the break, but then the Wolves unleashed total freakin’ destruction.

Chelsi Stevens (left) and Ava Lucero wait for their moment to deliver major emotional damage to a rival team.

Bryley Gilbert knocked down six points in the second quarter to spark a 13-1 Coupeville run, as she and her teammates claimed the lead for good.

Up 20-10 at the half, the Wolves were unstoppable in the second half.

Armstrong rained down pain from every angle, including netting a three-ball, during her torrid third quarter run.

With a bucket from Gilbert and a free throw off the fingertips of Chelsi Stevens, that made for a game-busting 20-8 surge.

Forks had no answers, and then no points, as it went scoreless in the fourth quarter as the Wolves closed out the romp.

Gilbert finished with a season-high 12 to back up Armstrong’s 20-point outburst, while Tenley Stuurmans (7), Capri Anter (2), Ari Cunningham (2), Adie Maynes (2), and Stevens (1) also scored.

Ava Lucero, Taylor Marrs, and Lexis Drake rounded out the rotation for the Wolves.

This time, things broke their way.

Playing in a one-goal game for the third time in five tilts this season, the Coupeville High School girls soccer team came out on top Saturday at Forks.

Sparked by sophomore Ayden Wyman’s third goal of the year, and strong work in net by goalie Anna Myles, the Wolves edged the host Spartans 1-0.

The non-conference victory lifts Coupeville to 1-4 on the season.

Wyman, the lone Wolf to score this season, punched in her third goal of the campaign, and the seventh of her prep career, to make the difference.

She was set up by teammate Bryley Gilbert, who notched the assist.

Myles and her defenders clamped down from there, frustrating Forks in their efforts to find an equalizer.

“Lots of shots the second half,” said CHS coach Kyle Nelson. “Thankfully we got one of them in to take the game.”

Coupeville returns home to face Mount Vernon Christian Tuesday, Sept. 27.

It’s the first of three straight Northwest 2B/1B League contests for the Wolves and the nightcap in a pitch doubleheader.

Coupeville’s boys host defending state champ Orcas Island at 4 PM that day, followed by the girls game at 6 PM.

Faces, faces everywhere.

Crack Coupeville High School photographers Bailey Thule and Delanie Lewis snapped plenty of on-field photos at Friday’s football game, but their crowd work was especially impressive.

Capturing their classmates on film, they document the next wave of Wolf Nation in the pics seen above and below.
