Like to shoot, love to score

They’re on a first name basis with the net.

Seven Coupeville High School soccer players have netted a goal this season, with seniors having accounted for 13 of 21 scores.

There’s still plenty of time left for the scoring race to shift, with the Wolf varsity scheduled for at least three more games, and the JV down to clash with La Conner this week.

Keep the scoreboard hoppin’.

That’s the plan for the Coupeville High School football team, which has racked up 238 points across the first eight games of the season.

That comes out to 29.75 a night for a team which sits at 5-3 heading into its regular season finale at Friday Harbor on Halloween.

The Wolves have kept the chain gang busy this season.

Eight Wolves have scored a touchdown this season, with freshman Richmond Bandong joining the group this past Friday in a win over Winlock.

Down the backstretch they go

The end of a month approaches, and the end of a season.

As October plays out, Coupeville High School teams are moving down the backstretch with fall sports activity.

Wolf cross country is off to Tri-Districts at Ft. Steilacoom this coming Wednesday, Oct. 30, with an eye on qualifying for the state meet.

Meanwhile, football heads to Friday Harbor on Halloween for its regular-season finale, with a league title and playoff berth in the balance.

CHS volleyball travels to Orcas Island Tuesday with plans to complete a perfect run through league play, while the Wolf booters are the busiest by far.

The pitch masters, chasing a playoff berth, host Providence Classical Christian Tuesday, travel to La Conner Friday, then close the regular season Saturday at home against Orcas.

With everything coming down to the nitty-gritty, a look at league standings through Oct. 27:

Rally queens win again

There’s no slowing their roll.

Shaking off the aftereffects of a long bus trip to far-flung Neah Bay Saturday, the Coupeville High School JV volleyball squad captured its eighth straight victory.

Bouncing back to win set three by a tasty 15-5 score after splitting the first two frames, the Wolves get to 10-1 on the season.

Coupeville’s young guns have two matches left on their schedule, with a road trip to Orcas Island Oct. 29 before the home finale Nov. 4 against Sultan.

The Wolves dominated play in the first set Saturday, thunking the Red Devils 25-15, before their hosts rallied to claim the second frame.

That set up a winner-take-all mad dash to 15 points, and the CHS spikers couldn’t be held down.

Which makes for a pleased coach.

“It was a nice, loooooong day, but it was pretty good!” said Wolf skipper Ashley Menges.

“Every game does get better and better, and we’re getting more and more focused on implementing personal goals in games.

“Our third set was our best, focus-wise as well as just overall performance, which makes me happy.”
