Joey Lippo fires liquid heat in an All-Star game. (Photos property Tyler Turner)

Joey Lippo got some postseason love.

The Coupeville High School grad earned a Gold Glove Award as a catcher for his work in the Aroostook Men’s Baseball League this summer, while also notching an invite to the All-Star game.

Lippo, who was a standout diamond player at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, was in his second season of summer ball.

Postgame fist-bumps for everyone.

Skyy’s twin brother played multiple positions for the Mavericks, who finished the regular season in second place.

Lippo and Co. fell to the third-seeded Bad News Bears in the playoffs, with that team going on to notch its second-straight title.

Before his time in Maine, where he also golfed for UMPI, Lippo was a three-sport star in Coupeville, playing tennis, basketball, and baseball for the Wolves.

The best glove in the biz.

Volleyball is one of three CHS sports which charge for regular season clashes. (Jackie Saia photo)

Sometimes you pay, sometimes you don’t.

All middle school sports events in Coupeville remain free to watch as we head into a new school year, while it’s a split decision for high school games.

Regular season football, basketball, and volleyball contests require some moola to get in the door, while soccer, tennis, softball, baseball, track and field, and cross country are free.

Postseason contests are their own thing, and when we hit that part of the year, be sure to pop back over to the blog for info on what district, regional, or state officials will try and extract from you.

For regular season CHS sports which require payment, here’s the breakdown:

$7.00 — Adults and high school students without an ASB card

$5.00 — Visiting high school students with an ASB card

$5.00 — Senior citizens (62+)

$5.00 — Grade school (K-5)

Free — Children 5 and under and Coupeville Middle School/High School students with an ASB card

They’re learning the game from every angle.

Incoming Coupeville High School freshmen Taylor Marrs and Lillian Ketterling are not only top soccer players, but they’re sanctioned refs as well.

The duo, who have attended clinics and done hours of online work to prepare, were making calls at this weekend’s Washington Rush Cup at Skagit River Park in Burlington.

That tournament drew tons of teams, with multiple Whidbey Island-based squads winning titles.

Ketterling and Marrs suit up for a Deception FC team which didn’t play in the tourney, allowing them time to pick up their first assignments as officials.

“They did a great job and are gaining a lot of experience and knowledge of the game,” said Wolf Mom Emili Marrs.

“Which I’m sure they will put to good use on the field as they are also both ready to play girls soccer this fall as freshmen.”
