Jeannie Sandahl and Brian Vick keep the bubbly flowing.

Volleyball aces (l to r) Lucy Sandahl, Ashley Menges and Emma Smith can’t pass up a photo op.

While the crabs cook, Kole Kellison (back, left) ponders how long it will take to turn his ’70s cop ‘stache into a magnificent beard o’ the sea, like the one Mark Hammer rocks.

Why did Superintendent Steve King bounce from Oak Harbor to Coupeville? The food’s much better over here.

Ciara Smith (middle) offers some sisterly love as lil’ sis Ema clicks away.

Having captured lemon bars for her table, Kim Robinett floats on air.

Lucy Sandahl and dad Michael win the award for the photo most likely to make people say, “aaaahhh…”

The circle of life is fueled by crustaceans.

The Coupeville Booster Club threw its yearly Crab Feed shindig Saturday, packing the Nordic Lodge Hall and raising a ton of money for CHS athletes.

The event is the biggest fundraiser for the boosters, and, along with the food, and the auctions, it also attracts a high class of paparazzi.

Ema Smith, uber-talented Wolf senior, returned to swing the camera lens on the crowd, and the photos above are courtesy her.

Back Wolf Nation today. (Photo by JohnsPhotos.net)

You (yes, you) have the power to help make Coupeville sports soar to new heights.

With a simple, yet deeply significant move — joining the school’s Booster Club — you can help finance and fuel the mission of helping the Wolf sports programs thrive.

But I don’t want to do a lot of work, you say. No problem.

Membership in the Booster Club doesn’t mean you need to participate or volunteer in their activities or fundraisers, or even attend meetings, though the more that do that, the lighter the load for all involved.

But whether you want to go full-time hard-core, or just write a check and feel a warm glow in your chest, the options are many.

The Booster Club is an independent 501c3 organization which supports the athletes and athletic activities of the Coupeville School District.

Working with the players, coaches, Athletic Director, administrators and local businesses and fans, the club provides financial support for items and activities the school district doesn’t cover.

This includes providing athletes with varsity letters and emblems, buying roses for Senior Night festivities, organizing the Homecoming parade, awarding scholarships, holding athlete appreciation dinners and covering ASB fees for those in financial needs.

The club also runs an annual sports physical program, and funds specific requests for equipment or team-building activities from CHS and CMS coaches.

In recent months, this has meant purchasing items such as a high jump mat, weight room equipment, football headsets, soccer goals, HUDL memberships, specialized volleyball and basketball equipment, and baseball and softball bats and helmets.

The Booster Club also paid for the purchase and updating of the record boards for CHS football and volleyball, and was an invaluable ally in the creation, installation and updating of the Wall of Fame in the high school gym.

To make this all possible, to keep the circle of life going for Wolf Nation, the Booster Club raises funds through memberships, fundraisers (such as the annual Crab Feed in Nov.), apparel sales, and private donations.

Which brings us back to how a simple act, buying an annual membership, whether you want to be involved in the day-to-day activities or not, is invaluable.

The club offers four tiers, and a membership is good from Sept. 1 to Aug. 31 of the next year:

$125 — Business membership (includes a Wolf banner)

$75 — Family membership

$50 — Individual membership

$25 — Wolf Backer

The Individual, Family, and Business levels also include signage acknowledging you in the entrance way to the CHS gym.

Of course, you can also make special monetary gifts and donations, if you’re feeling especially flush with Wolf pride.

As your child steps up, so can you.

With a new school year bearing down, the Coupeville Booster Club is kicking into gear, and the hunt is on for new club members.

In particular, club veterans are hoping to attract the parents of Wolf freshmen.

If you have a son or daughter in the CHS Class of 2022, now would be the perfect time to join the booster club and help it grow as your child begins their path through their high school days.

Depending on how much time or desire you have, you can do a little or a lot.

Want to eventually be the Club President? Now’s the time to plot your rise.

Want to just help out a bit behind the scenes, as the boosters support Wolf athletes and coaches throughout the school year? That works as well.

If you want to get a feel for what the Booster Club does, the first meeting of the new year goes down this coming Monday, Aug. 27.

It’s at 6 PM in the health room, which is the room right outside the CHS gym. Step inside the front doors of the gym, and bam, it’s on your left.

If you have any questions, or want to get the ball rolling right away, contact Wendi Hilborn at wendihilborn@gmail.com.

Want to be in the inner circle?

Intrigued by the idea of helping Coupeville High School sports reach new heights? Feeling school spirit bursting out of every pore? Have a little bit of spare time?

Well then, I have a deal for you.

With a new school year fast approaching, the Coupeville Booster Club is gearing up for another campaign, and their roster is in flux.

The club needs to add some new board members to round out the group which keeps things chugging along. Whether you have kids at CHS or not, that could be you.

Board members have voting rights, work on projects throughout the year such as the annual crab feed fundraiser, and get to be at the forefront of funding Wolf athletes and coaches.

From supplying athletic letters, to making sure athletes have snacks on road trips, to helping CHS coaches purchase new equipment, to being a driving force behind the Wall of Fame in the gym and the record boards for football and volleyball, the Booster Club is the motor which drives Wolf Nation.

Want to run track for Randy King, or play any of a billion other sports at CHS or CMS? You need a physical. (Photo by JohnsPhotos.net)

Want a sports physical, but don’t want to go out of your way to set up an appointment with a doctor?

The Coupeville Booster Club is here to make things easy for you with an event May 22 at the high school gym.

Tentatively called “Night of 1,000 Physicals” (OK, I made that part up…), the event runs from 6-9 PM and is open to all CMS and CHS athletes.

Cost is $45 and proceeds will fund a needs-based college scholarship for a CHS athlete, which will be awarded May 2019.

Cash, debit cards and checks are all accepted.

You need to sign up prior to the event, and can do so at:

When you pop over there, you’ll also find a health history form to fill out and bring with you.
