I’ve written a lot of words here on Coupeville Sports, but I realize where my page hits really come from.

Photos. Photos. And, yes, more photos.

Whether snapped by Shelli Trumbull or John Fisken or David Stern or any of a thousand Wolf moms (and dads), glossy pics are the real power behind the throne.

So, as we head into a new sports season, I decided to take a quick look back at the one which just finished, and do something I haven’t done before — pick my favorite pics.

These 10 aren’t necessarily the ones which got the most clicks (team photos are always a magnet), and they don’t cover every fall sport.

But, at this moment, they are some of my personal favorites — ones which I think capture the essence of high school sports in a special way.

So, which one do you like the most? Let me know.

Our poll for the “Photo of the Fall” kicks off at 7 PM Sunday and goes 48 hours, ending at 7 PM Tuesday.

Vote as often as you like. Wild West rules, no restrictions whatsoever.

What does the winner get? A nice warm glow in their chest(s), so, they got that going for them, which is nice.

Senior QB Hunter Downes, here making the great getaway, received Offensive MVP honors at Saturday’s team awards banquet.

A season of pain ended on a positive note.

With all the many injuries sustained this year now in the process of healing, the Coupeville High School football squad gathered Saturday to toast its accomplishments.

Wolf QB Hunter Downes, who broke the school’s career touchdown passes record, was named the Offensive MVP.

Also taking home hardware were seniors Cameron Toomey-Stout (Defensive MVP) and Julian Welling (Lineman of the Year) and juniors Shane Losey (Wolf Award) and Matt Hilborn (Special Teams MVP).

Earlier, Toomey-Stout was a three-time honoree when Olympic/Nisqually League coaches voted on All-Conference teams.

Camtastic was tabbed a First-Team player at both wide receiver and defensive back, while nabbing Second-Team props as a kick returner.

Downes was a Second-Team pick at QB, with Welling earning Honorable Mention on the defensive line.

At Saturday’s banquet, CHS head coach Jon Atkins handed letters to 18 players, with a third of those wrapping up a full four-year run in a Wolf uniform.

Camtastic went out with a bang.

In a football season where Coupeville lost almost all of its stars to injury, senior Cameron Toomey-Stout was one of the few Wolves to stay healthy and explosive all year.

And now he’s been rewarded for the stellar numbers he put up on both sides of the ball, being tabbed to the Olympic/Nisqually League’s All-Conference team three times.

Toomey-Stout earned First-Team honors as a receiver and defensive back, while also netting Second-Team honors as a kick returner.

Two of his fellow seniors, Hunter Downes and Julian Welling, also received props when the coaches of the eight-team league got together to hash out the season.

Downes, who broke his school’s career record for touchdown passes, was a Second-Team selection at quarterback, while Welling was an Honorable Mention pick for his work on the defensive line.

Playoffs? Yes, we’re talking playoffs.

Coupeville High School grad Nick Streubel, now a starting lineman for the Central Washington University football team, is headed to the postseason, and he even gets a week to rest up.

The Wildcats capped an 11-0 regular season Saturday with a 42-28 road win over Humboldt State, claiming their first Great Northwest Athletic Conference title since 2012.

Still coasting on the buzz from its big win, Central then nabbed one of four #1 seeds for the NCAA D-II playoffs.

CWU, which reps Super Region Four, is joined by Indiana (PA), West Alabama and Fort Hays State as top seeds, and all four get a first-round bye in the 28-team tourney.

After a week off, the Wildcats host the winner of Winona State (Minn.) vs. Texas A&M-Commerce in the round of 16.

That game will be in Ellensburg Nov. 25.

Streubel, who was a standout football, basketball and track star during his days in Coupeville, is a red-shirt sophomore for Central.

Teo Keilwitz (33) hauls in the ball, while Julian Welling keeps any pesky Cowboys out of his face.

The football season may be done, but there are a few more pics still falling to the gridiron.

As Coupeville closes down its very-active MASH unit and moves on to basketball season, David Stern delivers a few final photos for your perusal.
