Kwamane Bowens snags a photo with Coupeville grad turned U-Dub football star Sean Toomey-Stout, who he coached in high school. (Photo courtesy Bowens)

Life is good.

Kwamane Bowens, who was a Coupeville student as a young man, then came back around to help coach Wolf football players, is a multi-threat.

The former NCAA D-I scholarship athlete is currently on the gridiron coaching staff at Anacortes High School, where the Seahawks are a flawless 3-0 after smacking formerly-big-and-bad Archbishop Thomas Murphy last Friday.

Bowens also continues to pursue his musical career as Groovie Mane, having dropped his debut album, Key to Me.

And take a gander at the video for his song Can’t Change (which does have some explicit lyrics) below:

Nine out of 11 ain’t bad.

We’re kicking off a new week with a photographic look at Coupeville High School coaches, though we’re missing two.

That’s because I already used soccer guru Kyle Nelson’s pic earlier this season.

And, for whatever reason, I’ve never seen head shots for this year’s Wolf cross country squad, which rules out trail queen Paige Spangler.

At least for now.

But the other nine coaches, covering volleyball, cheer, football, and boys soccer, are here, and awaiting — in alphabetic order — your perusal.

Jonathan Valenzuela was in on nine tackles Friday in a win over Sultan. (Photo by JohnsPhotos.net)

The numbers keep piling up.

Week three of the high school football season brought a win to Coupeville, as the Wolves stomped visiting Sultan 30-13 Friday night.

Running wild over the Turks, the Wolves, now 2-1 heading into a trip to La Conner, added to their season totals on both sides of the ball.

From touchdowns, to tackles for loss, to fumble recoveries, CHS coaches plugged it all into MaxPreps, and then I came along to pluck the fruit which will get me sweet, sweet page hits.

So, here you go, some season-to-date stats to marinate in.

Wolf soccer coach Kyle Nelson tapes up Wynter Arndt as she prepares to defend her home pitch.

They’re off to see the world.

Coupeville High School athletic teams will spend some time on buses and ferries this coming week, with seven of nine events on the road.

All five fall Wolf squads have at least one meet, match, or game away from Whidbey, with only volleyball and boys soccer getting to play in front of their home fans.

The CHS spikers have the busiest schedule, playing three times, with road matches Tuesday at Darrington and Saturday at Forks packaged around a home clash Thursday with Orcas Island.

Meanwhile, Wolf cross country is off to Orcas Wednesday and Shoreline Saturday for the King’s Invite, while football travels to La Conner for Friday Night Lights.

Rounding out things, the booters hit the pitch, with the boys team traveling to La Conner Tuesday before playing at home Friday against Friday Harbor.

Coupeville’s girls soccer squad is off until Saturday, when it treks out to Forks for a non-league clash.

Coupeville grad Ben Smith is playing college football in Illinois. (Photos courtesy Deb Smith)

He’s traveled across the country in pursuit of his athletic dreams.

Coupeville High School grad Ben Smith is currently suiting up for the Eureka College football team in Illinois.

The NCAA D-III school is best known for a former football player named Ronald Reagan, who graduated in 1932 before going on to be a movie star, the Governor of California, and the 40th President of the United States.

The current Red Devils gridiron squad is 1-0 in conference play and 1-2 overall after whacking visiting Rockford 31-14 Saturday.

Smith, who was a First-Team All-Conference running back during his time at Coupeville, is listed at linebacker.

A college sophomore, he’s played on special teams in all three of his games, wearing #36 while chasing after kick returners.

Smith, whose older brother Jacob was a top track and field star at CHS, is studying criminal justice at Eureka when not playing football.

Reppin’ the Red Devils.
