Winner, winner, spaghetti dinner.

The Coupeville High School girls’ basketball squad, two-time defending 1A Olympic League champs, are planning a tasty fundraiser for later this month.

The Wolves will be offering spaghetti and meatballs, plus all the appropriate sides, May 15, with the proceeds going to help pay for players to attend hoops camp together.

All the info you need can be found in the handy poster that sits above, so no need for me to retype it and you to re-read it.

Plus, you’re probably already scrolling back up and just staring at the spaghetti anyway by this point…

Former Wolf soccer coach needs an assist!!

Once a Wolf, always a Wolf.

Former Coupeville High School girls’ soccer coach Mike Thornton lives with his family in Texas now, but he is fondly remembered for his time at the helm of the CHS program.

Thornton, a 1990 graduate of Oak Harbor High School, is currently battling stage two Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, which he was diagnosed with in early March.

He and his family have set up a GoFundMe page to help with medical expenses, and he is keeping fans and friends updated on his fight through that page.

I worked with Thornton during my time covering sports for the Whidbey Examiner, and always found him to be a friendly, rock-solid guy, both as a coach and person.

It would be great if as many Coupeville people as possible could pop over and take a look at his page, help out financially and/or send encouragement.

Keep on pushin’.

As local music legend/all-around quality dude John Tristao continues to fight back, recovering from surgery to save his life after a tear of the aortic valve, family and friends are doing all they can to help with his extensive medical expenses.

A GoFundMe page, which got a huge response when it was featured here on Coupeville Sports, has raised more than $30,000 and is still raising funds.

Now, a benefit is planned for this Sunday, May 1 at the Coupeville Rec Hall (901 NW Alexander).

Set to run from 1-6 PM, the event will feature “food, beer/wine, live music, dancing and lots of love” and is open to all ages.

Cost is $20 and alcohol will be sold separately.

They will accept cash and checks (made out to John and Beth Tristao) at the door, with all proceeds going to John’s medical expenses.

If you don’t already know, John, a superbly talented singer and musician who once worked for the Coupeville School District, is the lead singer of Creedence Clearwater Revisited and Johnny Bulldog.

He has frequently donated his skills to front numerous charity fundraisers for the community in the past.

Go Bennett!!

One of Coupevill’s youngest athletic stars needs a helping hand from his community.

Bennett Boyles, a member of the town’s 6th grade SWISH basketball team, is battling autoimmune encephalitis, and his teachers at the Ebey Academy are conducting fundraisers to help with his medical expenses.

The Academy is hosting two “Parents Night Out” events Apr. 30 and May 21, where people can drop their children and a donation off and have an evening to themselves, knowing their progeny will be well looked after.

They are also planning a book sale and a garage sale.

Donations are accepted 24/7, and you don’t have to have children, or drop them off, to help Boyles and his family.

Bennett, whose mom Lucienne and aunt Cara both attended Coupeville schools, has spent all 11 years of his life here, brightening the lives of those around him.

Autoimmune encephalitis, which was first diagnosed in 2005, is a disease in which the immune system attacks the brain.

Heni Barnes was one of the smartest people to ever come through Coupeville, and it’s not even close.

During her time as a Wolf, she was a top track and field thrower, going to districts in the discus and shot put, but her greatest accomplishments came off the field.

Jazz Band. ASB class president. National Honor Society officer. Science Olympiad. Produce picker and baby wrangler for local farmer/teacher Wilbur Purdie and wife Julieanna.

Oh, and there’s that whole “won a gold medal and $5,000 and got her documentary shown on the History Channel after winning the national History Day contest” thing, as well.

These days, the 2014 CHS grad is in even greater demand.

She’s been accepted to present at the International Conference of Permafrost in Potsdam, Germany in June, which will help her continued take-over of the world of geology.

Barnes needs $2,000 to make her dream come true and has already raised almost 90% of the funds on her GoFundMe page.

Now would be a perfect time for us to put her over the edge and help her make it to her goal.

Consider helping one of our most accomplished (and nicest, may I add) alumni, and maybe she’ll remember you when she completely takes over the world.
