The Grinch is back, but for a good cause.

The green furry one will be camped out at Polished Studio in Oak Harbor Saturday, Dec. 2, and you can get your photo snapped with him while donating to a good cause.

Tickets are $25 and include “light refreshments and a ton of Whoville fun!”

Proceeds benefit the Brandon Graham Foundation, which was started to promote mental health awareness and honor the memory of a beloved Coupeville High School grad.

Tia Wurzrainer (left), back in her Coupeville High School tennis days, when she and Avalon Renninger were clobbering folks. (Photo by JohnsPhotos.net)

She was always a high achiever.

During her time in Coupeville, Tia Wurzrainer was a solid three-sport athlete and top student who could often be found hanging out at the family business, Christopher’s on Whidbey.

Now, Sebastian’s lil’ sis is a senior at Trinity College in Connecticut, and she’s still going above and beyond.

Her latest adventure is hiking 51.6 miles of the Appalachian Trail in less than 24 hours, as part of a fundraiser.

I could try and recap the whole thing, or simply point you in the direction of a story by a writer at the Trinity Tripod.

I choose door #2, so pop over to:

The Vipers are ready to strike.

Now they just need a little help from their fan club.

A pack of hard-hitting, slick-fielding girls form the Whidbey Island Vipers, a 14U travel softball team gearing up to play near and far over the months to come.

The squad, which kicked things off with a season-opening tourney this past weekend, is in its first year.

Coached by Grant Van Dyke, with help from Mason Strevel and Whidbey softball guru Jim Wheat, the Vipers are comprised of 14 players.

Shea Allison reps Oak Harbor, while the South end has sent Sophie Zeigler, Jolene Coleman, Kennedy Strevel, and Lena Heggenes.

The Vipers rock Halloween costumes at their first early-season tourney.

The core of the team hails from Coupeville, with Haylee Armstrong, Chelsi Stevens, Emma Cushman, Sydney Van Dyke, Capri Anter, Abby Whitney, Ava Lucero, Cameron Van Dyke, and Adie Maynes calling Cow Town home.

Tournament play will take the Vipers off-Island on a regular basis, and the team is seeking a financial boost from local fans to help with expenses.

The Whidbey softball player you sponsor today may be the star of tomorrow.

Action on the floor, action in the bleachers.

Coupeville High School volleyball squads crushed visiting Concrete Tuesday, sweeping both the JV and varsity matches.

While they did so, the fans, many of them decked out in pink to commemorate the battle against breast cancer, cheered, posed for pics, then posed for some more.

The click of the camera could be heard from one end of the gym to the other, with the photos seen above and below coming to us from John Fisken.
