Heni Barnes

Heni Barnes

Heni Barnes was one of the smartest people to ever come through Coupeville, and it’s not even close.

During her time as a Wolf, she was a top track and field thrower, going to districts in the discus and shot put, but her greatest accomplishments came off the field.

Jazz Band. ASB class president. National Honor Society officer. Science Olympiad. Produce picker and baby wrangler for local farmer/teacher Wilbur Purdie and wife Julieanna.

Oh, and there’s that whole “won a gold medal and $5,000 and got her documentary shown on the History Channel after winning the national History Day contest” thing, as well.

These days, the 2014 CHS grad is in even greater demand.

She’s been accepted to present at the International Conference of Permafrost in Potsdam, Germany in June, which will help her continued take-over of the world of geology.

Barnes needs $2,000 to make her dream come true and has already raised almost 90% of the funds on her GoFundMe page.

Now would be a perfect time for us to put her over the edge and help her make it to her goal.

Consider helping one of our most accomplished (and nicest, may I add) alumni, and maybe she’ll remember you when she completely takes over the world.

Monica Vidoni

Monica Vidoni

Got a buck or two to help a former Wolf?

Monica Vidoni, who is currently a freshman at Rainy River Community College in Minnesota, is looking for help to get to Florida with her softball squad.

The Voyageurs will be traveling down there during the first week of March for a five-day tournament, and each player needs to raise $1000 for plane tickets and uniforms.

Vidoni, a 2015 graduate of CHS, is currently in the second of her three sports seasons at Rainy River.

She started with volleyball, is currently playing basketball and then will join softball, mirroring the sports she played as a high school athlete.

Monica Vidoni has made big strides. Now, we can all help her make the biggest one.

The 2015 Coupeville High School grad, a three-sport athlete (volleyball, basketball, softball) for the Wolves, is planning to head to Minnesota for college.

She wants to attend Rainy River Community College in International Falls, with plans to play all three of her sports.

RRCC is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association and competes in the Minnesota Community College Conference.

Amy Briscoe has started a GoFundMe account to help Vidoni cover the cost of her plane ticket and is asking for the community’s help.

For all of those who have seen Monica grow and become a more confident young woman and athlete in the past year, this would be an excellent opportunity to help keep her rising for the top.

Maddy Neitzel (John Fisken photo)

Neitzel gets ready to fly.

Neitzel gets ready to fly.

Skip a coffee, help fund the future of Wolf cheer.

Coupeville’s Maddy and Amanda Neitzel have launched a GoFundMe fundraiser in an effort to raise $300 apiece to attend a top-level cheer camp this summer.

Maddy is already an award-winning cheerleader, having earned Most Improved honors after her first season on the football sidelines for CHS this past fall.

To discover more of her tale of becoming a first-time cheerleader, take a look back at a feature story I wrote on her, where she was kind enough to answer my questions and came off as a bright, personable young woman:

McKenzie Rice

CHS junior McKenzie Rice

Help her now and maybe she’ll remember you when she’s on Broadway.

McKenzie Rice, a junior at Coupeville High School, is among the best and brightest Wolf Nation has to offer.

One of the leading lights in the CHS drama troupe, she also plays tennis, is a key member of the school’s band and participates in Leo’s Club.

All while beaming a quiet, mega-watt smile everywhere she goes.

Now the talented Rice has a chance to hit the Big Apple and pursue the acting bug.

She has the chance to attend a 21-day Acting Intensive Course where she would stay at Yale.

The program consists of classes in voice, text analysis, scene study, movement, and basic acting technique and is taught by professional actors, vocal coaches and university professors.

While there, she and her classmates would create their own production, while also getting an opportunity to see Broadway shows.

It would be an invaluable life experience for a talented, fast-rising young star in the making, but McKenzie needs some help to be able to go.
