It wasn’t the best spring, weather-wise, that we’ve seen on the prairie.

But through the wind, and rain, and more wind and rain, the Coupeville High School softball squad put together a very successful spring.

Along for the ride was Wolf Mom (and CHS Yearbook editor) Jackie Saia, who delivers the pics seen above and below.

They’re winners, no matter the weather.

The uniforms were different, but the superior style of play was still in place.

Stepping up in the fight against cancer, the Coupeville High School softball sluggers wore special jerseys Saturday during their home doubleheader with Onalaska.

Along with romping to a game one win, then coming within a batter of pulling off a stunning comeback in the nightcap, the Wolf diamond queens raised more than $1,200 for WhidbeyHealth.

As the action played out, CHS yearbook editor (and Wolf Mom) Jackie Saia snapped away, capturing the pics seen above and below.

The future is super bright for Coupeville’s 8th graders, who are already big-time contributors to the high school varsity squad.

Emotion beats equipment.

You can have all the fancy cameras in the world, and a grainier image which burrows deep to nail exuberant happiness or tender sadness will still win the day.

At least in my book.

As I looked back at the photos run here on Coupeville Sports in 2023, I didn’t try and balance the various sports.

Some are featured more than others. It is what it is.

And there certainly is no ranking, which would be madness. The order they’re running in across this story is random in the extreme.

But these 23 pics, for me, in this moment, capture the year as it was.

Argue, debate, or simply accept that as long as I’m the only one able to publish on this blog, I’ll always be right in the end.

OK, now we’re finished.

With the first high school basketball games six days away, today marks the final photo essay featuring fall sports.

Really this time.

And the spikers were the final Coupeville High School athletes to be playing, so it’s sort of fitting they account for the last batch of pics.
