Claire Mietus does.

Sylvia Hurlburt

A cheerleader (in this case, fall season captain Sylvia Hurlburt) taking photos of other cheerleaders? The circle is complete.

Natasha Estes

Natasha Estes has some ballerina in her, getting up, way up, on her toes.

Heather Nastali

Heather Nastali slides into action, backed by Robin Cedillo.

Mckenzie Meyer

Mckenzie Meyer did double duty, alternating between cheer and band on this evening.

They’re the best at what they do.

For the high-energy Wolf cheer crew, that means being loud and proud and nailing every routine in their playbook.

They were back at it Friday night, during home girls’ basketball games, keeping the noise and energy bouncing off of the walls of the CHS gym.

In between kicks and cheers, travelin’ photo man John Fisken slid by and captured a few pics of Cheridan Eck’s squad in action.

8th grade

Coupeville’s 8th grade squad features players who will be making the jump to high school ball next year.

Mason Grove leans back and gets a better angle on the hoop he’s about to fill.

3/4th

Coupeville Sports Hall o’ Famer Greg White (right) is on the scene to impart hoops wisdom to the young guns.

Barton

Having retrieved a loose ball, Connor Barton is not anxious to give it back.

Jacobi Pacquette-Pilgrim

Jacobi Pacquette-Pilgrim makes it rain.

6/7th

Undefeated and it feels so good. Coupeville’s 7th graders (with a few 6th graders and a precocious 4th grader thrown into the mix).

The future of Wolf basketball is on its way, one bucket at a time.

Three Coupeville SWISH boys teams have kicked off their season, and travelin’ photo man John Fisken caught them all in action this past weekend.

The pics above, which showcase players from 4th to 8th grade, are courtesy him.

Hunter Smith (John Fisken photos)

Hunter Smith was locked-in all night, drilling a season-high 19 to spark the Wolves to a non-conference win. (John Fisken photos)

Jordan Ford

Just as Stevenson thought they had the rebound, Jordan Ford comes swooping in from behind to snatch it away.

The Wolf bench approves of Ford’s hustle.

Dante Mitchell

Dante Mitchell looks for a small crack in the Bulldog defense that he can exploit.

Stevenson fans

Let’s give the Stevenson fans a hand. Traveling 525 miles round trip for one game? That’s commitment.

Risen Johnson

But hey, the trip was worth it, as they got to see Risen Johnson work his magic.

JJ Johnson

Plus JJ Johnson looked super-smooth while incorporating a little dance into his ball-handling duties.

The layoff didn’t hurt.

After sitting for nearly a week, the Wolf boys came out strong Friday night, beating back visiting Stevenson 64-60, while also making travelin’ photo man John Fisken’s job easy.

The snappy pics above are courtesy him.

Gabe 1

Gabe Wynn (on top) buys the ticket for the ride. (John Fisken photos)

Gabe2

“OK, we’re really doing this…”

Gabe3

“I believe…”

Gabe4

“I can…”

Gabe5

“FLY!!”

Gabe6

“No…”

Gabe7

“No…”

Gabe8

“No…”

Gabe9

“NOOO!!”

You might not want to poke Gabe Wynn this morning.

The Coupeville High School junior might be a tad bruised and battered, after spending much of Friday night’s boys basketball game bouncing off of everything sharp he could find in the gym.

At one point, chasing a ball, he blew a hole through his bench, sending chairs and shrieking teammates into the bleachers.

Then, as is his custom, he bounced off of the gym floor a few dozen times.

No one seems to enjoy the taste of the floor quite like Wynn, as least as evidenced by his propensity for crashing to the hardwood.

But wait, it gets better.

In the flip-book of pics above, travelin’ photo man John Fisken catches Wynn at the apex of his powers, going up and over the call of duty in pursuit of that elusive basketball.

As I look at the photos I like to imagine just a hint of R. Kelly starting to sing “I believe I can fly,” followed by Cleveland from Family Guy screaming “No, no, no, nooo!!”

Yep, that works.

Cassidy

Wolf stat keepers Cassidy Moody (left) and Melia Welling enjoy their job.

Jacobi

Jacobi Pacquette-Pilgrim can already hear the soft swish the net will make as his shot drops through.

Sage

Sage Downes keeps his body between his man and the ball, as longtime Wolf hoops guru Randy King (black shirt) admires his work from afar.

Matthew Kelley

The look of a defender who knows Matthew Kelley has just beat him. Badly.

Daniel

Daniel Olson, droppin’ three-balls like they’re going out of style.

And so it ends.

The Coupeville Middle School boys’ basketball season wraps up Thursday, with a road trip to sunny Sequim.

After 10 games, numerous practices and countless hours spent on buses and ferries, the Wolves will pack up their uniforms and cede the courts to the girls.

That season kicks off Feb. 1, with the first day of practice, and Feb. 18, with the first game.

As the Wolf boys prepare to clamber on the bus one final time, let’s toss out a handful of photos to remind you of what the (very successful) season has looked like.
