The opening days of practice included a chance to admire the off-season growth of court foliage. It was removed later in the day.

John McClarin

Wedekind’s doubles partner, John McClarin, gets some air.

John Fisken is sneakier than I thought.

Despite rumors to the contrary, the travelin’ photo man was back in Cown Town Tuesday.

Just as I was worrying that boys’ tennis had been left in the shadows, as we ran photos from the other three Wolf sports teams, lo and behold, fresh ‘n toasty pics of the netters in action arrived in my inbox.

Patience. I will learn it. Some day.

Hunter Downes is coming for all your records. All of them, I said!

Welling and Battaglia

“Dang! Downes is like a beast out there!!” Julian Welling (in back) keeps an eye on his QB while stretching Chris Battaglia out.

The countdown is on.

In less than two weeks the Coupeville High School football squad will travel to Langley to kick off its first season under new head coach Brett Smedley.

Before that Sept. 4 battle for The Bucket, however, the Wolves will be putting in work. Lots of it.

Catching some of that practice time Monday was travelin’ photo man John Fisken, who provides us with the pics that reside above.

The biggest news seen here? The return of Jenn Spark (far right) who missed most of last year after a terrible injury.

girls

Like I said, not their first photo shoot…

Eventually, they played some soccer. And were pretty dang good at it.

But first things first for the Coupeville High School girls’ soccer squad on Day #1 of practice for a new season.

Running? Well, yeah, eventually…

But take one team blessed with athletes who enjoy posing for the camera, and one rovin’ photo man in John Fisken, and the first day of practice was all about the photo ops.

Then CHS coach Troy Cowan got control of his team again and they went back to work, content in the knowledge that they had, once again, won the internet.

Fall is upon us.

Well, fall sports, at least.

Monday brought the first official day of practice for the Coupeville High School volleyball, boys’ tennis, cheer and girls’ soccer squads. Football kicked off Aug. 19.

Travelin’ photo man John Fisken, whose work has been shortlisted for this year’s Washington Newspaper Publishers Association awards (classy!), strolled through town and snapped some pics for us.

First up, the Wolf spikers, led by second-year head coach Breanne Smedley and returning stars like Valen Trujillo and Sydney Autio.

Day two was a battle. Literally.

It may feel like the middle of the summer, but practice for fall sports officially began Wednesday, with the Coupeville High School football squad the first to kick off events.

The second day brought two new wrinkles to things — a visit by travelin’ photo man John Fisken and a team tug of war competition.

Let the clickin’ and the gruntin’ begin.
