Hit ’em high. Hit ’em low. Just hit ’em.

There was tiredness on his face. The lingering aftereffects of a bout with illness. Heartache and resignation after a last second loss.

But above all else, there was pride on Coupeville High School football coach Tony Maggio’s face Friday night.

His Wolves had taken Klahowya, a much larger school, to the final moments in a titanic 42-35 battle for a playoff spot, and he paid witness to every drop of sweat left on the sod at Micky Clark Field.

“The guys gave it their all. They left it all on the field. So, so proud of them.”

It was a feeling shared by many.

Want to play a game?

Coupeville High School did Friday, as its Homecoming floats all revolved around famous board games.

Clue, Operation, Candyland and Monopoly all got shout-outs as the various classes floated by at halftime, accompanied by a group of royalty headed up by Queen Ashlyn Miller and King Lucas Etzell.

Joining them in snagging sashes and such:

Senior Prince and Princesses — Josh Bayne, Oscar Liquidano, Aaron Wright, Kacie Kiel, Julia Myers and Wynter Thorne.

Junior Prince and Princess — Brenden Gilbert and Jazmine Franklin.

Sophomore Prince and Princess — Mitchell Carroll and Mattea Miller.

Freshman Prince and Princess — Jesse Hester and Abby Parker.

Duke and Duchess — Kyle Nelson and Catherine Berg.

The streets were hoppin’ Friday.

From Main Street to Front Street, the excitement of Coupeville High School’s third annual Homecoming parade took hold, as floats, royalty and one really big yellow truck took to the streets.

Stationed along the route, camera in hand, was John Fisken, who delivers these photos onto you.

“Maybe if I keep running, I’ll run right into next season…”

The season is done, but the photos are forever.

The Coupeville Middle School volleyball squads wrapped up play and have begun to move on, but I’ve got a few hundred thousand photos left lying around company headquarters.

So, here you go, eight glossy pics to remind you of that hallowed time of yore when volleyballs flew through the air and the young women who are the future of Wolf athletics let loose with spikes, sets and laser serves.

You know, last week.
