Celebrate, good times, come on!

The noise hath returned.

Bringing back costumes and face paint for the first time since midway through last season (when a dust-up with school administration put a damper on things), the student cheering section for CHS volleyball matches was at its loudest ‘n proudest Wednesday night.

Whether the section will one day return to being fully crammed — as in years past — is still an open question.

But it was a huge step in the right direction, one spurred on by Wolf football players such as Joel Walstad, Matt Shank, Josh Bayne, Isaac Vargas, Ryan Griggs and Gabe Wynn.

Also on hand, because it wouldn’t be the same without him, the man, the myth, the legend — Coupeville tennis god Kyle Bodamer.

Patrolling the gym snapping pics of both the revived student section and the action on the court was John Fisken.

The Coupeville Middle School volleyball squads wrapped up the 2014 season Tuesday with an all-Island rumble with Langley, but that won’t stop the photos from pouring out.

Here to get you started are 10 snappy pics from wandering photo man John Fisken.

Think about the future.

Thinking about playing more than one sport this school year? Do it.

Thinking about you or your family buying photos taken by Olympic League clicker John Fisken? Do it.

Both choices can benefit you, if you’re a Coupeville High School student/athlete.

Today and in the future.

For the second year, Fisken will be awarding up to two college scholarships to Wolf seniors. And, with the money coming directly from photo sales, local fan and parent support is key.

The scholarships, which went to Breeanna Messner and Brandon Kelley in their inaugural go-round, have been renamed the Olympic League.com Scholar-Athlete Award, to reflect Coupeville bouncing into a new league.

Up to two $250 awards will be handed out. The number of scholarships and dollar amount are directly tied to photo sales.

You can find pics at the league’s website, http://www.olympicleague.com , and links to Fisken’s work are frequently posted here on Coupeville Sports.

To be eligible, Wolf seniors need to have participated in at least two sports for all four years of school.

Exceptions may be granted in cases of injury or for students who came to CHS midway through their high school careers.

Seniors also need to have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or better and submit a 500-word essay on “How Sports Made Me A Better Person.”

Applications are available in the CHS counseling center.

“You see that, Bailey? Did you?!?!? Right there. I left half the skin off my kneecap … right there!”

"Niccceeeee..."

“Niccceeeee…”

Madeline Strasburg is gold.

The Coupeville High School senior, aka Maddie Big Time, excels in high pressure athletic situations and in having her photo snapped.

She may not quite be to the level of McKayla “Million Dollar Arm” Bailey, the one-true Photo Bomb Queen, but then, who is?

But Strasburg is undeniably in the top 1% of photo op lovin’ superstars.

You can see that in the photos above, which come from Tuesday night’s Wolf volleyball match against visiting Bellevue Christian.

What can I say?

Athletes come and go, and there will always be talent on display.

But when Strasburg, Bailey and Co. graduate, taking their ability to produce snappy picture after picture off with them, there will be epic shoes left to fill.

I’m sorry. I can’t talk about this any more. I may cry at the thought of having to write more words to fill the gaping hole left by the loss of sure-thing winner photos.

Don’t mind me. I’ll be in the corner, praying for a freshman or two to step up and seize the mantle. I have high hopes for Luke Merriman … perhaps he will save the day.

Anyway, while I whine on, you can pop over and see more John Fisken photos (and possibly purchase some, which helps fund scholarships for CHS student/athletes) at:

When he’s been healthy, Loren Nelson has been half of the #1 doubles team.

The schedule has been sort of odd this season.

With Coupeville High School adjusting to a new league, less conference games and a more jumbled non-conference schedule, there have been some weird gaps between games.

At least it seems that way.

Case in point, the Wolf volleyball squad (0-4) hasn’t played in 12 days.

They return to the court tonight (JV 5 PM, varsity 6:15), when they host Bellevue Christian. Then, they’re off for another six days.

The CHS soccer squad (3-2) suddenly added a new game to the schedule, plugging in a non-conference affair at Oak Harbor tonight. Kickoff is 6 PM.

That game will bring together a huge chunk of the GU18 Whidbey Islanders squad, with Wolves like Micky LeVine and Jacki Ginnings facing off with their select teammates who play for OHHS such as Becca Pabona and Jacalyn Hefflefinger.

Football (3-2) and boys’ tennis (2-4) both return to action Friday.

The gridiron squad travels to Port Townsend (5 PM kickoff), while the netters will welcome the Chimacum/Port Townsend combined team, with first serve at 4 PM.
