A busy week, then the break.

Coupeville High School basketball teams have their second-straight three-game set in the days ahead, before a two-week holiday shutdown arrives.

Both the Wolf girls and boys welcome Forks to town Tuesday, before climbing on a school bus and heading East for tournament-style action.

Coupeville’s girls square off with Cle Elum Wednesday and Kittitas Thursday, while the boys reverse things.

Brad Sherman’s squad rumble with Kittitas Thursday, then play Cle Elum Friday in the 2023 finale.

“A long trip on a school bus? Yay…”

After that, both CHS squads are off (from games at least) until the first week of January.

With that in mind, here are where things sit through Dec. 16:

Turn up the intensity.

After a somewhat slow week in which Coupeville High School basketball teams played just once, the next six days are about to get very busy.

The Wolf boys head to Granite Falls Tuesday, while the CHS girls host Orcas Island Wednesday in a non-conference game against a league rival.

After that comes a dual trip to Friday Harbor on Friday, with those games being the first official league contests of the season.

Things wrap Saturday with a home doubleheader against next-door neighbor South Whidbey, with the Wolf girls celebrating the 50th anniversary of the program at halftime of their game.

As we head into the busy season, a look at where things sit through Dec. 10:

We’re in the thick of things.

Fall sports are chugging along, with the race for league titles and playoff seeding part of daily life.

In that environment, Coupeville High School teams have six events in the coming week, with three at home and three on the road.

Wolf fans are on the edge of their seats.

Wolf volleyball enjoys home cooking, hosting Concrete Tuesday and Mount Vernon Christian Thursday night.

Meanwhile, CHS football has its Homecoming game Friday, with Forks making the long trek to participate.

Rounding out things, cross country gets on the bus for a trip to Lake Padden Park in Bellingham Thursday for the Lake Lap Invitational, while boys’ soccer makes two trips off-Island.

The Wolf booters travel to Friday Harbor Tuesday to square off with the defending state champs, then amble down to Bothell Thursday to play Providence Classical Christian.

The schedule is slim, but the games are big.

The week ahead features just one contest apiece for Coupeville High School volleyball, football, and soccer, while cross country gets two events.

The Wolf harriers host a home meet at Fort Casey Wednesday, then hit the road Saturday for an appearance at the Twilight Invitational at the Cedarcrest Golf Course.

Meanwhile, the CHS booters host Cedar Park Christian-Lynnwood under Friday Night Lights, while football travels to Friday Harbor for a first-place showdown the same evening.

Wolf volleyball gets its match early in the week, with a trip to La Conner to face the four-time defending state champs.

The Braves seem vulnerable, however, having lost four of their first five matches in the post-Suzanne and Ellie Marble era.

Plus, La Conner lost to Coupeville at the South Whidbey Invite Saturday, which could be a sweet appetizer to the main course.

Time for the fireworks.

The regular season is done, league champs are crowned, and it’s nothing but playoff action from here on out.

Three of Coupeville’s four spring sports teams are still alive heading into next week, with two in action.

Girls’ tennis sends two singles players and two doubles teams to Bi-Districts Friday, May 19 in Seattle, where the Wolves will try and punch some tickets to the state championships.

CHS baseball plays the next day, making its first appearance at state since 2014.

The location of that game and opponent will be announced Sunday when the seeding committee reveals its work.

Coupeville’s track and field team is also off to state, but not until the following week, with the last meet of the season set for May 25-27.
