John Fisken’s camera is currently packed in ice, cooling down.

The wanderin’ photo man hit up Coupeville Monday and went a little wild, snapping pics at four different locations.

Giving his trusty camera no time for a breather, Fisken shot middle school track (scroll down the blog an article or two to find those pics), as well as high school baseball, softball and tennis.

The latter three are represented here, with a smorgasbord of his work.

Need a win? Call on your seniors.

“Grizzled” hard-court vets Jazmine Franklin and McKenzie Bailey dug deep and found some third-set magic Monday, propelling themselves, and the Coupeville High School girls’ tennis squad, to a huge win over Port Angeles.

Pulling out a 7-5, 5-7, 6-2 win at second doubles, the rock-solid duo lifted the Wolves to a 4-3 victory, avenging an earlier-season loss to the 2A Roughriders.

Coupeville now sits at 7-3 on the season.

Wolf coach Ken Stange knew he could count on his veteran team captains when things got down and dirty.

“They found a way to pull it out,” he said. “They were clutch in the third set!”

Undeniable progress.

Retaking the courts after a two-week break, the Coupeville High School girls’ tennis team went toe-to-toe with one of the best net programs in the state Thursday and held its own.

While the Wolves fell 5-2 to perennial power South Whidbey while playing in Langley, that was two matches better than the first time they met this season.

“We performed much better than we did the last time we played South Whidbey,” said Coupeville coach Ken Stange. “Picking up a couple of wins was good.

“More importantly, we were competitive in most of the matches,” he added. “South Whidbey has an excellent team. Luckily, we won’t face them at districts!”

Coupeville (1-3) returns to action quickly, hosting the combined forces of Chimacum/Port Townsend Friday afternoon (3 PM) in a 1A Olympic League match.

Everyone keeps it under control long enough for a team pic, but then…

Bailey

Bailey gets her moment in the spotlight, but also a taste of her own medicine.

Ken STANGE

Well played, Ken Stange, well played.

McKenzie Bailey is up to her usual shenanigans.

God bless her.

Nothing warms the heart and kicks up the page views like The One True Photobomb Queen ™ at work.

As she heads towards graduation, I once again raise the question I raised when older sister McKayla ankled for the door a year ago … WHYYYYYYYYY?

Why must the Bailey sisters ultimately choose higher education and college life over just staying around and spending their days goofing off for wanderin’ photographers?

WHYYYYYYYYYYYY?

Yes, I can do this all day and … oh wait, there’s a third photobombing sister and Mollie still has 5-6 more years to uphold the family tradition?

OK, I’m good. For now.
