Sizzlin’ softball stats are at your fingertips

The stats are starting to pile up.

Seven games into the season, the Coupeville High School softball squad shows remarkable balance.

All 12 varsity players have scored at least one run, while 11 have a hit, a different 11 have a walk, and 10 have collected RBI’s.

Senior catcher Sarah Wright, who slashes out of the cleanup spot, is the early front-runner.

She leads the Wolves in at bats, hits, batting average and on base percentage, as well as being tied for the lead in home runs and RBI.

Other leaders include Chelsea Prescott (stolen bases and triples), Veronica Crownover (doubles and a tie for homers), Emma Mathusek (walks and a tie for RBI), and Scout Smith (runs).

We know all this because softball is the lone spring sport at CHS to currently be posting stats on MaxPreps, which is where I plucked these numbers from.

Welcome back to contentious corner, for the final time.

Tracking football stats is a tricky business, especially when multiple people are recording said info.

So, as I present the season-ending stat totals for Coupeville High School’s gridiron squad, keep in mind, I’m just the messenger.

I can stand behind some stats (touchdowns, PATS, interceptions, etc.) with rock-solid faith.

With a few others which involve yardage or tackle totals, I understand the arguments on both sides, but this is what I have been given.

If there’s someone out there with more football knowledge than me, and a HUDL password, feel free to go review the last nine weeks of film and tell me what you see.

Let’s argue about stats!!

Perfect? No. Pretty close? Yes.

The stats game is a tricky one, especially when multiple people have been involved, and everything is being done live, often from less-than-desirable sight lines.

So, while no one is claiming the Coupeville High School football stats below are flawless (for one thing, we’re still missing numbers from one game), they at least give you a general idea of how the 2018 season has played out.

And it’s safe to say Sean Toomey-Stout, who leads the team in seven different categories, is far and away the team MVP.

Of that, there is no controversy.

Everything else? Let the arguing begin, while remembering, I am the messenger only.

And PS, if there’s someone out there with more football knowledge than me who wants to go through the footage for all eight games on HUDL and slap some refined season-to-date numbers on my doorstep, you know where to reach me.

Let the stats debate begin!!

Work with what you have.

Sultan’s hard-hitting (and chippy) defense limited a lot of what Coupeville wanted to do Friday night, resulting in a 38-6 Turk win at Mickey Clark Field.

But, even in a loss, there are stats to ponder, mull over, and argue about.

Spikers collect killer stats!!

Everyone is chipping in.

As the Coupeville High School volleyball squad preps for its biggest match of the still-young season — a first-place showdown in Shoreline Tuesday against King’s — the Wolf spikers boast a flawless 5-0 record.

They’re doing it by getting solid contributions from everyone on the roster, from Chelsea Prescott ripping off wicked serves to Emma Smith dominating at the net.

Five matches in, that duo accounts for the top slot in seven of ten statistical categories, with Prescott tops in digs, aces, service points and service percentage.

Emma Smith is #1 in kill percentage, blocks and hitting percentage, while Scout Smith (assists), Maya Toomey-Stout (kills) and Emma Mathusek (service returns) each top a single category.

Three of those Wolves are also among the best in all of 1A in a stat category, with Scout Smith leading the way at #3 in assists.
