The booters are back.

After being knocked down by the pandemic, the North Whidbey Soccer Club’s annual Rock On! 3 v 3 tournament lives again this summer.

The popular event, which ran for 12 years prior to the Covid-19 shutdowns, is set for May 27-28 this year.

The tourney is open to players from age seven and up, with teams from on and off Whidbey joining.

Cost is $150 for a youth team and $175 for an adult team.

Youth teams play to the oldest player’s age group, while co-ed teams play in the boys’ division.

Trios don’t need a coach, but youth teams need an adult willing to “be in charge.”

Registration deadline is May 12.

Luke and Maria Summers both ran in the half-marathon Sunday.

Thousands of runners, but we only care about 27 of them.

Sunday’s Whidbey Island Marathon brought a sea of humanity to Deception Pass and outlying areas, but the only way those runners get into this story is if they listed Coupeville as their hometown.

You call Alabama, Oregon, or (shudder) Oak Harbor your place of residence?

Good on you.

Now go start your own blog. It ain’t that hard.

With that said, we present the few, the proud, the Central Whidbey residents who ran in the half-marathon, 10K, or 5K.

As far as I can tell, no one from Coupeville took on the full 26.2-mile main event this time around.

Half-Marathon:

Luke Summers (50th) 1:42:36
Colin Albi (59th) 1:43:43
Hannah Teminsky (115th) 1:52:38

Maria Summers (321st) 2:12:03

Melissa Vrbanac (441st) 2:25:16

A winter storm slams into Whidbey Monday afternoon. (Photos by JohnsPhotos.net)

Mother Nature is still in charge.

Dropping a mid-November storm on Whidbey Island Monday, she reminded us all of her power.

A semi-truck almost got blown off of Deception Pass Bridge, I lost power for 16.5 hours (the horror, the horror…), and John Fisken waded out into the blusteriness to get the pics seen above and below.

To see everything he shot, pop over to:

The view from a boat skimming local waters. (Photo property Rowing on Whidbey)

Rowing on Whidbey is on the lookout to add a coach.

The club, which promotes life on the water to athletes from novices to seasoned pros, is based out of Oak Harbor.

The following was posted Thursday afternoon on Facebook:

Coach needed for fledgling club in paradise.

Whidbey Island is sheltered from most of the local rains by a rain shadow formed by the Olympic Mountains.

Temperatures are moderated by the surrounding waters of Puget Sound. The views are amazing and marine wildlife abounds.

There are a number of novice rowers just waiting to absorb all you can teach them. Send a message for more details!!
