Savanna Dohner, AKA The Bass Queen.

Savanna Dohner, AKA The Bass Queen of Cow Town.

You can’t have a party without the band.

With The Bucket coming back to Coupeville Friday night, the joint was jumpin’, and, after a bit of a slow start, the CHS band kicked into high gear.

While you can argue they need to learn a little AC/DC, they got the job done, led by the uber-talented Savanna Dohner on bass and former Wolf Danny Savalza sitting in on drums.

This year’s band, at least if the opening night program was 100% correct (always debatable):

Jakobi Baumann
Jaschon Baumann
Laurence Boado
Alonzo Boyles
Steven Cope
Beauman Davis
Savanna Dohner
Natasha Estes
Jake Hoagland
John McClarin
Mckenzie Meyer
Claire Mietus
Matthew Millenbach
Alexxis Otto
McKenzie Rice
Johanna Seiffert
Oliana Stange
Connor Thompson-Moler
Sean Toomey-Stout
Joseph Wedekind
Allison Wenzel
Jacob Zettle

Who am I to argue with the public?

Scorekeepers extraordinaire Marty and June Mazdra

When he’s not busy working as the Island County Coroner, Robert Bishop lives a second life.

In that time, he’s a camera-clickin’ paparazzi who can be often found haunting the games his daughter, Coupeville High School senior Breeanna Messner, plays in.

Tuesday night she and her Wolf girls’ basketball teammates tipped off with visiting Cedarcrest, and Bishop was on the scene to capture the moments, big and small, that go into a night of high school hoops.

There is money to be made here.

Coupeville High School senior athletes are eligible for a new scholarship that is being offered by Whidbey Island photographer John Fisken starting this year.

Fisken, whose work can be found at http://www.cascadeathletics.com/index.php?district=1&league=2, will fund the scholarship(s) off of money raised from purchases of his photos.

The more sales, the higher the scholarship amount. The higher the amount, the chance it might be split into two scholarships.

To be eligible, a Wolf athlete needs to meet the following criteria:

*Be a full-time CHS student-athlete

*Have participated in at least two sports per year for all four years of high school

*NOT be getting any financial assistance from any college or university for sports

*Minimum 3.0 GPA

*Write a 500 word essay “How Sports Made Me A Better Person”

Interested Wolf athletes can get applications and more info at the CHS counseling office.

The action on the basketball court is not the only action.

A photographer like John Fisken knows this to be true, so he lets his camera wander from time to time, and comes up with shots like the ones above — a smorgasbord of colorful images from Tuesday night’s Coupeville vs. Granite Falls boys’ basketball game.

Than he’s nice enough to share them with us.
