Run, so they can dance!!

Secretly, you’ve always wanted to run in a tutu. You can admit it.

Well, whether that’s true or not, next Saturday (Sept. 26) would be the ideal time to try out the idea.

The Whidbey Island Dance Theatre — home to Coupeville High School ballerina superstars Sylvia Hurlburt and Skyy Lippo — is hosting a Tutu 5K Fun Run.

The run, set to kick off at 9 AM at Mickey Clark Field (the CHS football stadium on S. Main), will offer a prize for best costume.

If you don’t have your own tutu (and if not, why not, man?) you can purchase one at the start line.

Cost of the non-competitive fun run is $10 for children 12 and under and $20 for adults (13 and up).

Families of four or more can nab a deal for a crisp $50.

Dogs are welcome but must be on leash. No word on whether they need to be wearing a tutu, but, again, why not, man?

Run for love, for hope!!

Janesah and Janeah Goheen

Local runners can help transform a day of mourning into a day of hope and love, building something beautiful in memory of two transcendent young women.

Halloween night of 2013, twin sisters Janeah and Janesah Goheen of Oak Harbor were badly injured in a car accident caused by a driver who was convicted on three counts this week.

The bright, outgoing, musically talented sisters both died from their injuries.

Now, family friend Dena Royal is hoping to turn that tragic day around a bit, by launching a 5K run in Coupeville which will raise funds for a music scholarship which will honor the Goheens and their love of the arts.

The Goheen Twins Memorial 5K Run/Walk will kick off at 10 AM Saturday, Oct. 31.

Entry will be $10 per person, with t-shirts $15 each. Entry forms are expected to be available by Sept. 25.

Money raised from t-shirt sales will go towards education regarding aggressive driving on Whidbey Island.

There will also be prize drawings for those who make extra donations on race day.

The race will start at Coupeville Elementary School, then head out along the paved Kettles Trail before winding its way back.

Finishing times will be provided, but it’s not a competitive race.

Bicycles and dogs (except for service animals) will not be allowed and children under the age of 13 will need to be accompanied by a parent or guardian.

If you’re not able to take part in the race, but would like to donate to the music scholarship, you can send a check to PO Box 1092, Coupeville, WA, 98239.

Make checks payable to Goheen Twins Memorial 5K and write “donation” on the check.

There will be a meeting for volunteers at 6:30 PM this Wednesday, Sept. 23 at Whidbey Isle Yarns (12 Front Street in Coupeville).

Not that there was too much wind on a sunny, sizzlin’ August day, but local runners competing in the annual Race the Reserve Saturday were flying along.

Jon Crimmins? Fastest man in Cow Town!!

He’s smarter than the average bear, and, apparently, quicker, too.

At least when it comes to traversing Ebey’s Prairie.

Jon Crimmins, park ranger extraordinaire, revived memories of his high school athletic exploits Saturday, zipping to the best time by any Coupeville runner in the half marathon, the premier event at the annual Race the Reserve.

His time of one hour, 42 minutes, 15 seconds placed him 8th overall, out of 128 runners.

Close to 400 runners hit the starting line this year, with participants divided between the half marathon, the 10K and 5K.

The races benefit the next graduating class at Coupeville High School.

And no, I’m not about to list all 400 or so runners on here.

The rules are simple.

If you listed Coupeville as your home town, and my eyes didn’t glaze over and miss you while going through race results, you’re on here.

From Oak Harbor or, heaven forbid, another state entirely?

Well, should have brought your own reporter with you then, I guess.

It’s called Coupeville Sports for a reason.
