Here come the playoffs.

As the regular seasons begin to wind down, every one of the Coupeville High School spring sports teams is postseason-bound.

1A Olympic League rivals Port Townsend and Chimacum can’t say that, but CHS, the little school that could, has matched Klahowya by advancing girls’ tennis, boys’ soccer, baseball, track and softball to the next level of play.

Toss in golf, where Christine Fields is a one-woman Wolf wrecking crew, and Coupeville is 6-for-6.

To give you a feel for what’s been going on, and the promise of more to come, here are eight snappy pics courtesy John Fisken.

Tyler King

Tyler King

Tyler King is part of history.

The former Coupeville High School running whiz is now a redshirt junior at the University of Washington and this weekend he helped the Huskies thrash their biggest rivals in a way never before seen in 96 years.

With King garnering three points for his second-place finish in the 3,000 meter race, U-Dub pasted Washington State University 113-50 in a meet held at the Husky Outdoor Track.

That, combined with the Washington women winning 99-64, means the Huskies scored a combined 212 points, the most-ever in the nearly century-long war between the two state schools.

It was also the first dual meet sweep for UW since 1997, and only the third sweep since 1979, when Washington added womens’ track and field.

The Husky men have beaten the Cougars three straight years, while this was the first win for the Washington women over WSU since 2012.

King zipped through his event in a lean eight minutes, 20.09 seconds, trailing just teammate Colby Gilbert, an All-American who holds the school record in the 3,000.

Gilbert hit the tape in 8:11.73.

The Huskies go to the Pac-12 Championships in mid-May, with the NCAA outdoor track championships in mid-June.

Hunter Hammer, All-American college track athlete and accomplished baby-sitter.

Hunter Hammer, All-American college track athlete and accomplished baby-sitter.

Hunter Hammer is a two-timer.

All-American that is. Two-time All-American.

The former Coupeville High School basketball and track legend finished third in the shot put at the National Christian College Athletic Association finals in Rome, Georgia this weekend, earning that status.

Representing Trinity Lutheran, his final throw in the shot put went 14.60 meters.

He was an All-American last year in the discus, an event he took 13th in this time around.

Hammer also placed fifth in the hammer throw (45.85 meters), and the ten points he earned accounted for more than half of his team’s 19 points.

The Trinity Lutheran men finished 15th in the team standings, with Shorter University taking home the NCCAA championship banner.

Hammer’s female teammates placed 22nd overall.

During his time as a Wolf, the six-foot-seven, wildly outgoing Hammer broke almost all of the school’s throwing records, while also being a dominant player for the boys’ basketball squad.

After graduation, he competed at Everett Community College for two seasons before joining the brand-new track program at Trinity.

The throwers put on a show.

Competing at the 21-team BCS Invite at Interlake High School in Bellevue Saturday, the Coupeville High School track team set 16 PRs and won a relay event.

That win came in the 4 x 100 relay for throwers, where Dalton Martin, Grey Rische, Mitchell Losey and Jesse Hester teamed up to out-lean Cedar Park Christian by less than half a second.

That performance, and strong work in the shot put and discus by Martin, gave the CHS throwers a title, as the Wolf boys bested six other schools to claim first place in the team competition.

Overall, Coupeville claimed 10th place in both team battles, with Cedar Park Christian winning the boys title and Montesano nabbing the honors on the girls side of the ledger.

Six Wolves set two PRs apiece, with Delaney Armstrong, Allison Wenzel, Abby Parker, Jacob Smith, Connor Thompson and Lathom Kelley all putting in strong work.

It was a day for dominance, in many different ways.

Makana Stone and Dalton Martin were all about the wins, while Alexxis Otto carried the banner when it came to setting PRs Thursday as the Coupeville High School track squad competed at a five-team meet in Port Townsend.

Stone zipped to victories in the 200 and 400, then made it three-for-three by running a leg on a winning 4 x 200 relay squad that included Marisa Etzell, Lauren Grove and Kirsten Pelroy.

While she was running wild, Martin was throwin’ like a boss, taking top honors in both the shot put (where he set a PR) and discus.

While the five wins were the big story on the day, the 17 PR’s set by the Wolves (10 for the girls, seven for the boys) were just as impressive.

Otto paced Coupeville, smashing her own records in all three of her events (shot put, discus, javelin).

Lauren Bayne, Delaney Armstrong and Kenny Johnson set PRs in two events apiece.

The meet, the next-to-last of the regular season, brought league rivals Coupeville and Port Townsend together with 2A schools Olympic and North Mason and 1B Crescent.
