Season one is in the books.

The Medaille College volleyball team’s win/loss record wasn’t quite what everyone might have hoped, but Coupeville grad Chelsea Prescott knocked it out of the park.

The former Wolf capped her freshman season at the Buffalo, New York school Saturday, filling up the stat sheet in a heartbreaker of a five-set loss.

Medaille rallied from two sets down, then hit a roadblock in the fifth set, falling 25-17, 25-23, 22-25, 23-25, 15-9 on the road against the University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg.

The loss drops the Mavericks to 1-7 in Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference play, 4-17 overall.

Saturday’s match was a battle for 7th place in the nine-team conference.

The top six teams, led by league champ Penn State-Behrend, are now off to the playoffs.

Prescott racked up 10 kills, two aces, a solo block, eight digs, and 13 points of offense in the season finale.

She started all 21 of her team’s matches, and played in all 70 sets, finishing her frosh campaign with 116 kills, 165 digs, 24 aces, 12 assists, three solo blocks, 11 block assists, and 148.5 points.

Prescott finished #2 among all Mavericks players for kills, digs, and points, #3 for block assists, and #4 for aces.

It was the right decision.

The Leicester Riders inserted Coupeville grad Makana Stone into the starting lineup two games ago, and the team hasn’t lost since.

The latest victory was of the blowout variety, as Leicester overcame a slow start Saturday to annihilate the Caledonia Pride 83-54.

With the win, the Riders improve to 3-2 and move into sole possession of fifth-place in the 13-team Women’s British Basketball League.

Leicester is 6-2 overall, counting a 3-0 run in the WBBL Cup to open the season.

Stone had a somewhat-quiet afternoon, tossing in four points, snagging three rebounds, and making off with a steal.

But the newest addition to the team didn’t need to be front and center, as four of her teammates went off for double-digits scoring.

Oceana Hamilton led the way with 18 points, while Louise Rouse (17), Hannah Robb (16), and Anna Lappenkuper (15) all had a hot shooting touch.

Caledonia actually jumped out to a 23-17 lead after one quarter, but then Leicester dropped the hammer, repeatedly.

The Riders used 26-6 and 22-6 runs in the second and third frame, respectively, to put the game on ice.

Through her first eight games as a professional hoops player, Stone has tallied 55 points, 51 rebounds, 11 assists, and six steals.

Leicester returns to action next Saturday, Nov. 6 when it faces off with the Oaklands Wolves, who sit at 1-3 in WBBL regular-season play.

Dominic Coffman has reached the end zone five times during his junior season.

Is this the end?

We’re not sure, to be honest.

Thursday’s Senior Night game against Friday Harbor was the final one on the original schedule for the Coupeville High School football team.

But, now that the Wolves know they won’t be playoff-bound, there’s a chance CHS will pick up one more game against another school on the outside looking in.

As we wait for the scheduling dance to play out in the office of Coupeville Athletic Director Willie Smith, we can take a look at the team’s scoring stats.

Might be final. Might not be. Only time will tell.

Welcome to the mud bowl.

Driving rain turned Mickey Clark Field into a magnificent mess Thursday, as Coupeville and Friday Harbor fought through three overtimes to settle the Northwest 2B/1B League title.

While the win ultimately went to the visiting Wolverines, the game gave wanderin’ photographer John Fisken plenty of opportunity to snap his cameras.

Two and two.

Coupeville High School athletics sent four more seniors out the door Thursday, with football and cheer each honoring a pair of veterans.

Bella Velasco, Samantha Streitler, Isaiah Bittner, and Brian Casey were acknowledged (more than once) on Senior Night, before the Wolves engaged in a three-overtime thriller with Friday Harbor.
