CHS graduation goes outdoors

The way it always should have been.

If there’s one positive from the current pandemic, it’s this — Coupeville High School is adapting by moving its graduation outdoors.

Instead of jamming people into a sweltering gym in early summer, the ceremony for the Class of 2021 will take place at the stadium over at Mickey Clark Field.

And if you don’t know, the stadium and field sit behind Coupeville Elementary School at 6 S. Main Street.

Wolf football invades YouTube

Ride the information superhighway to football nirvana.

With seating at Saturday’s Coupeville vs. Neah Bay football game in Forks limited to Red Devils fans, Coupeville pigskin aficionados can view the game from the comfort of their recliners and couches.

The non-conference tilt, which kicks off at 3 PM, pits the 2-1 Wolves against a 2-0 foe which has won four state titles in its prestigious gridiron history.

PS — When the game airs Saturday, it may say “Forks vs. Coupeville,” but it will be “Neah Bay vs. Coupeville.”

And for those who don’t know, why have Wolf fans been instructed not to travel to Bat Country for the game?

Because Forks High School, which is hosting the event, is limiting attendance only to home fans to meet pandemic seating limits.

Neah Bay is the home team, and this will be the only “home” game the Red Devils and their families get during the Age of Coronavirus.

Coupeville, by contrast, has already played a real home game against La Conner, and gets a second one Saturday, May 8, when it hosts Concrete for Senior Night.

Covid erases three more games

Scritch-scratch, scritch-scratch, the pencil continues to mark up the schedule.

Pandemic concerns have erased three more games from the fall sports campaign, with Coupeville High School volleyball losing two matches, and boys soccer one game.

In the world of spikes and sets, both Darrington and La Conner have put their programs into two-week quarantines following positive Covid cases.

That means Coupeville x’s out a road trip to La Conner April 29, and a home match against Darrington May 1.

Over on the soccer pitch, the Wolf boys were scheduled to head to Grace Academy in Marysville Wednesday, but the Eagles announced Tuesday they couldn’t play.

From a quick look at the Grace Academy schedule, the school has eliminated its next three matches.

And we roll on, pencil in hand, eraser(s) at the ready, here in the Age of Coronavirus.
