Somes snaps sunny sluggers

The crack of the bat, the … appearance of the sun?

That strange, glowing orb in the sky has popped up once or twice this season on the prairie, amid the usual wind gusts and rain spatters.

Once such time was this past Thursday, allowing the Coupeville High School softball squad plenty of time to dismantle visiting Darrington in a doubleheader sweep.

Along for the ride was photo whiz kid David Somes, who delivers the pics seen above and below.

The Wolves are off to a 7-1 start on the season.

Winter banquet season wraps

Another season in the books.

The Coupeville High School boys’ basketball program wrapped its eighth season under Brad Sherman, and its 108th overall, with an awards banquet Friday night.

Manager David Somes took home the Heart of Service Award, while Hunter Bronec, Landon Roberts, and Chase Anderson were honored as varsity captains.

Riley Lawless received kudos for his work as JV captain as well.

Hunter Bronec, Roberts, Jack Porter, Hurlee Bronec, Johnny Porter, and Somes were hailed for being with the program all four years of their high school careers, with two Wolves making the All-League team.

Junior Chase Anderson was a First Team selection by Northwest 2B/1B League coaches, while Hurlee Bronec was tabbed to the Second Team.

The battle never ends.

Team manager David Somes summed it up nicely Friday as he and seven other members of the Coupeville High School boys’ basketball program bid adieu on Senior Night.

That the Wolves were celebrating their elder statesmen after beating visiting Friday Harbor for a key win heading into the playoffs?
