It’s portrait season.

Coupeville High School’s recent Senior Night festivities for its girls’ tennis team provided photographer Jackie Saia a chance to snap some up close and personal moments with Wolf players and coach Ken Stange.

Five 12th graders, two foreign exchange students, and one net guru, all making their final appearance on their home court and captured on film.

Two in one season, three for the school year.

Coupeville High School earned academic state titles in girls’ tennis and boys’ track and field Monday, as the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association announced honorees for spring sports.

That follows on the heels of Wolf girls’ cross country also topping all 2B schools back in the fall.

Coupeville’s netters, coached by Ken Stange, posted a 3.872 GPA for the season, with 10 players on the squad.

Meanwhile, the school’s 29 male track stars combined to finish with a team GPA of 3.714, with head coach Bob Martin making sure classroom success has matched the triumphs in the arena.

“They’re having themselves quite a season,” Martin said.

“These athletes just continue to amaze us,” added CHS girls’ track coach Elizabeth Bitting.

The Wolf tennis crew won a share of the Northwest 2B/1B League title on the courts this spring and is sending six players on to the bi-district tourney this Friday, where they will play for state tourney berths.

Coupeville’s male track stars won league and bi-district titles and have 12 athletes headed to Yakima May 25-27 for the state meet.

Time for the fireworks.

The regular season is done, league champs are crowned, and it’s nothing but playoff action from here on out.

Three of Coupeville’s four spring sports teams are still alive heading into next week, with two in action.

Girls’ tennis sends two singles players and two doubles teams to Bi-Districts Friday, May 19 in Seattle, where the Wolves will try and punch some tickets to the state championships.

CHS baseball plays the next day, making its first appearance at state since 2014.

The location of that game and opponent will be announced Sunday when the seeding committee reveals its work.

Coupeville’s track and field team is also off to state, but not until the following week, with the last meet of the season set for May 25-27.

Our final look at league standings for spring sports:

The bench is going to be a little bare next season.

The Coupeville High School girls’ tennis team celebrated Senior Night Friday, and seven of 11 players on the roster will depart.

The Wolves, who are also losing longtime coach Ken Stange, honored five seniors and two foreign exchange students under sunny skies.

Snapping away was cameraman John Fisken, who delivers us the pics seen above and below.

You couldn’t ask for a closer rivalry.

Four times Coupeville and Friday Harbor’s girls’ tennis teams clashed this season, and all four matches ended with the same 3-2 score.

The Wolves won the first two, while the Wolverines rebounded to claim the second pair, including Friday’s regular-season finale on Whidbey Island.

In doing so, Friday Harbor earns a share of the Northwest 2B/1B League crown, while CHS coach Ken Stange still notches his 12th title with the girls’ program.

He has 17 titles at the school since taking over both the boys and girls tennis programs in 2005.

With the regular season done, Coupeville is off to the bi-district tourney next Friday, May 19 at the Amy Yee Tennis Center in Seattle.

That single-elimination royal rumble pits District 1’s Coupeville and Friday Harbor against District 4’s Three Rivers Christian, which hails from Longview.

Each team will send two singles players and two doubles teams to bi-districts, with the winners advancing to the state championships.
