The Wolves celebrate the point that clinched a Senior Night win.

The joint was jumpin’.

Second place was at stake Thursday night (spoiler: the Wolves were successful) and fans were well represented at Coupeville High School’s volleyball match.

The student section was loud, passionate and well-choreographed, while a swirl of family, townsfolk and former players moved through the gym.

Sparked by the 20-pack of Diet Coke he was gifted before the game (or exactly 20 more cans than he thought I would give him), travelin’ photo man John Fisken clicked away for us.

His work is above. The Diet Coke was never seen again.

Wolf volleyball guru Breanne Smedley (white sweater) talks strategy, while Bailey can hear the click of a camera from 3,000 yards away.

They were little in numbers, but big in personality.

The Coupeville High School volleyball squad only has two seniors this season, but both McKenzie Bailey and Sydney Autio have a life-long love of the camera and the spotlight.

So, it was easy for travelin’ photo man John Fisken to get some pics Thursday as the duo were honored before their eventual win against Port Townsend.

Both Bailey and Autio have another home game ahead of them — a playoff contest next week — but on this night, as usual, the focus was on them and their megawatt smiles.

Job well done, ladies.

Shoot and score.

It worked both ways at Tuesday’s Coupeville High School girls’ soccer game.

The Wolves celebrated Senior Night by capping regular season play with a 2-0 win over Port Townsend, their team record-tying sixth win of the year.

And, while they were busy at work on the pitch, travelin’ photo man John Fisken was busy on the sidelines, snapping pics of all the action, on and off the field.

Senior Nights are about the players, but it’s also about their families.

It’s a chance for moms and dads and relatives of all kinds to put a cap on years of watching daughters and sons play a sport.

It’s about speeches, like Kirsten Pelroy telling her teammates “I’ll miss being your energizer bunny,” and Jenn Spark thanking her longtime select coach, Sean LeVine, for “teaching me everything about the sport I love.”

And, it’s about the photos.

It’s always about the photos.

Casie Dunleavy

CMS 7th grade coach Casie Dunleavy tries out some mock outrage, though, in her heart, she knows her team is amazing.

Naps are great.

Probably not a good idea when you’re planning to cover middle school volleyball live, and sleep right through actually leaving the house to go attend said match, but it happens.

In my defense, I was up early to do work for the Help House in Oak Harbor, and thought I’d catch a few moments in the middle.

Four hours later I come back to the world, at which point the Coupeville Middle School spikers have already dismantled visiting Port Townsend … from what I was told by people who actually showed up.

Anyway, here’s some lovely photos from previous matches that we haven’t seen before, and call it even.

Me? I’m going back to bed.
