CHS cheer coach Cheridan Eck bundles up against the cold.

team

A group photo brings in a couple of out-of-uniform cheerleaders and Wolf football star Lathom Kelley.

The Coupeville High School cheer squad doesn’t mess around.

You put on even a JV game, and there will be at least 20 Wolves front and center and ready to work the sidelines, no matter the score or the weather conditions.

And while the entire CHS cheer roster wasn’t there Monday, enough of it was to raise the roof (if Mickey Clark Field had a roof) from the opening kickoff to the final whistle.

Like I said, they don’t mess around.

Matt Hilborn (John Fisken photos)

Matt Hilborn, having snagged the ball, realizes there’s several Sequim players lookin’ to thrash him. Time to flip on the jets and get movin’. (John Fisken photos)

Cameron Toomey-Stout

Cameron Toomey-Stout calls his TD catch. “I’m going that way, skippy, and I’ll be gone before you blink.” He was right.

Jonathan Thurston

“Time to go kick some booty, boys.” Jonathan Thurston, moments before he took a pick-six to the house.

Ryuan King

CHS coach Ryan King, himself a former Wolf standout, imparts some wisdom to Hilborn. “When you hit ’em son, make their momma feel it.”

Helmets crunched against shoulder pads, touchdowns were scored and the cameraman fired off a billion or so photos.

Monday was football night in Cow Town, as the Coupeville High School JV gridiron warriors tangled with visiting Sequim.

Along for the ride was travelin’ photo man John Fisken, who was kind enough to provide us with the pics above.

Remember that dance we talked about earlier? It’s now in full swing.

“Go outside and play with the other kids, they said. It’ll be safe, they said…”

OK, I’ll be the first to admit I’m a bit out of the loop on this one.

All I know is the pics above are of the Deception FC GU-11 soccer squad in action from Saturday, and that we think (possibly) there are several Coupeville players on the team.

I actually recognize one, future Wolf star Lyla Stuurmans, so I have that going for me.

The rest of them? Yep, it’s all a guess.

But, as usual, John Fisken’s pics are snappy and I like to run as many of them as possible, so what the hey.

If some Oak Harbor kids have somehow wandered on to Coupeville Sports, well, it happens.

This? This is a look the Mariners have had most of the season. (John Fisken photos)

Steven Baron, one of the promising young players getting a chance to shine at the end of a forgettable M’s season.

play at 3rd

Ketel Marte gets doubled off first to end any comeback hopes.

21,840 folks showed up Safeco Field Sunday to watch the Mariners stumble to another loss in a fairly forgettable season.

As a guy who somehow ended up being a life-long Pittsburgh Pirates fan (despite living all 44 years of my life in Washington state), I, however, was busy riding the buzz of an 11th inning come-from-behind win.

After watching the Pirates set a North American sports record by racking up 20 consecutive losing seasons, the last three years of success have been a non-stop joy ride.

So, to long-suffering M’s fans, better days are ahead.

Maybe not for two decades, but some day…

Until then, you can bask in these hot ‘n toasty pics fresh from the camera of travelin’ photo god John Fisken.

Having escaped the Whidbey prep sports beat he (and his free parking pass) were up in the big leagues Sunday.

Well, if you can call the Mariners a big league team…

I kid. I kid. Enjoy the photos and dream of better days ahead.

Soccer is back in season and that means two things — dazzling moves on the pitch and cameras clicking.

As the CHS girls’ booters played Thursday in South Whidbey, travelin’ photo man John Fisken (and his many, many cameras) were on hand to catch all the action.

The photos above are courtesy him.
