“Eat your heart out, LeBron!!”

Fast break fever is rockin’ the land.

With middle school hoops being played, and high school hardwood action just a few weeks away, the sound of madly-squeaking shoes can be heard echoing from gyms everywhere.

Never more so than in this series of shots captured by John Fisken, who tracked one young Wolf as he got out of Dodge in a hurry.

Basketball be back.

Making their home debut Wednesday, Coupeville Middle School boys’ basketball players became the first Wolves to hoop it up.

Along for the ride, madly clicking away, was photographer John Fisken.

No one works the lines like a pink flag-wavin’ Papa Kiel.

It was about more than digs and spikes.

When Coupeville High School closed its volleyball season Thursday at home against Port Townsend, cancer awareness was also high on the bill.

The two teams participated in a “Dig for the Cure” event that benefited the Susan G. Komen Foundation. All of the CHS players — several of whom have parents who have battled cancer in recent years — wore special tie-died shirts.

Travelin’ photo man John Fisken was on hand to document much of the behind-the-scenes stuff from the night, and one fact emerges.

No one, and I repeat, no one, on the CHS volleyball squads is afraid of the camera.

Whidbey athletes live on the ferry.

It’s a fact of life, as the boats carry them back and forth over the seasons, dropping them on the other side — whether it be Port Townsend or Mukilteo — then bringing them back home.

Along for a recent ride was travelin’ photo man John Fisken, who snapped the pics above as he bobbed through the water with the combined forces of the Coupeville High School volleyball and girls’ soccer squads.
