A final swing, a final click

Her name is Avalon Renninger, and beatin’ the crud out of the tennis ball is her game.

Playing far from her native Brazil, Moratori found a second family in Coupeville.

One final time.

The Coupeville High School net crew played its final home match Tuesday, so ever-busy photo bug John Fisken shot through town for a few minutes to snap photos, before hurtling off to Oak Harbor for multiple other shoots.

Gretchen Smith will throw hands, if need be

The cameraman compliments her children, like daughter Heidi Monroe, and her grand-kids…

but when he starts pushing her to buy pics, Smith shows off why Joe Louis used to call her “The Dancing Assassin.”

It’s a good thing Gretchen Smith can take a gentle joke.

That’s all I’m saying, cause I don’t need Genna and Sarah Wright’s grandma coming for me with fists o’ fury.

Last time we saw each other, at a softball game in Granite Falls, she gave me a warm hug.

Of course, after this lil’ “story,” she might be offering free hay-makers next time.

Senior sluggers earn sweet swan song

Jake Pease and his fellow seniors closed their home playing days with an 8-1 win over Granite Falls.

Wolf coach Chris Smith joins his seniors.

They went out with a bang, and a click.

Coupeville High School baseball sent its five seniors to the exit door (for home games, at least) with a win Friday, their seventh-straight headed into the playoffs.

Along for the ride was John Fisken, who clicked the glossy photos seen above.

With Coupeville High School softball pushing 13 runs across the plate in a win over South Whidbey, the board was poppin’.

But so was paparazzi to the stars John Fisken, who kept his cameras humming on a cold, windy prairie day.

It’s the beginning of the end.

The Coupeville High School boys soccer team capped its regular season Tuesday with an Island rivalry rumble with South Whidbey, but first took time to honor its three seniors.

Dewitt Cole, Uriah Kastner, and Teo Keilwitz all have at least one more game to play, though, with a home playoff match Apr. 29 against Cedar Park Christian.

Win that one, and they earn at least two more district playoff games.

So, while the final exit can be seen, the road has a few more twists and turns in it before anyone gets there.
