The year’s first home track meet was hardly a one-person show, as athletes, coaches, Athletic Directors, parents, fans, even a former Wolf legend or two, all milled about Thursday at Mickey Clark Field.

Working his way through the crowds, with just his cameras to clear some space, John Fisken snapped away, and the pics above are courtesy him.

Saturday brought with it three Coupeville High School softball games, two for the varsity and another for the JV squad.

Toss in some rare early-spring sunshine, a lot of wins, and some steady camera-clicking by John Fisken, and it was a fairly complete day.

Staring down the brisk breeze, a collection of Wolf stars jam the stands.

The Leyva lads lead the charge, with Aram (front) and Derek slicin’ and dicin’ the defense.

The weather was wild ‘n windy, but at least I didn’t have to stand out in it.

The Coupeville High School boys soccer squad opened a new season Saturday afternoon, throwing down goals against Chimacum under what looked suspiciously like blue skies and sunshine.

As any battle-hardened Central Whidbey sports fan will tell you, that can’t possibly be true, as “spring” sports in Cow Town are almost always accompanied by sideways rain and howling wind.

But, for the moment at least, the photos don’t lie.

We’re officially back to action.

While the mini-games at Thursday night’s three-team boys soccer jamboree in Oak Harbor won’t affect anyone’s win/loss records, they do kick off the spring sports season.

Coupeville went up North to clash with South Whidbey and host Oak Harbor, a tune-up before the regular-season opener Saturday at home against Chimacum.

While playing on the frozen tundra, the Wolves had their photos snapped by John Fisken, who had a short drive from his nearby home.
