Spring has sprung (again)!!

The weather is fluctuating (as usual) but the enthusiasm is not being dampened.

Coupeville High School athletes officially slid into a new season Monday, with the first day of practice for spring sports.

Basketballs are put away (for the most part) and the focus is now on tennis, soccer, baseball, track and softball, with the Wolves plowing through the beginning of two weeks of prep work before they start playing games that count again.

Wandering around outside Thursday, travelin’ photo man John Fisken snapped pics of four of those sports in action for us, and we’ll try and catch up to tennis as soon as possible.

For now, marinate in your first glimpses of spring, in all its athletic glory.

These might be the Coupeville High School schedules you’re looking for.

Maybe.

You never know, as high school sports schedules, especially in the spring, are notorious for being ever-changing beasts.

As we sit six days out from the first day of practice for a new season (Monday, Feb. 29), I can say I’m at least 84.7% confident in what’s below.

Of course, even if these schedules stay exactly as they look now, weather is likely to play its usual role in reshaping things as we go forward.

But, as we wait for everything to play out, this is at least a start.

Maybe don’t laminate the schedules yet, though…

Here come the playoffs.

As the regular seasons begin to wind down, every one of the Coupeville High School spring sports teams is postseason-bound.

1A Olympic League rivals Port Townsend and Chimacum can’t say that, but CHS, the little school that could, has matched Klahowya by advancing girls’ tennis, boys’ soccer, baseball, track and softball to the next level of play.

Toss in golf, where Christine Fields is a one-woman Wolf wrecking crew, and Coupeville is 6-for-6.

We’re back to action today.

The slowdown of games caused by spring break, rain and the vagaries of schedule-making takes a break today, with CHS softball hosting Concrete (first pitch 4 PM).

Friday gives us baseball and softball (La Conner will be in town) and, after that, there’s something nearly every day the rest of spring.

As we swing back into action, our intrepid photographers, Shelli Trumbull and John Fisken, offer a look at some of the faces of Wolf sports.

With tennis and soccer, we have pics of (almost) all the players — booter Abraham Leyva was taking a nap and netter Mckenzie Meyer was out of town, so there’s at least two who are missing.

With softball, track and baseball, those group collections may still be coming, but, for the moment, here’s a mix of action and at-rest shots to tide you over.

Of course it’s sunny today.

In typical high school spring sports fashion, a day when nothing is scheduled to be played is balmy and delightful.

Friday saw clouds, rain and the cancellation of both CHS events — a girls’ tennis match at Friday Harbor and a softball game down in Langley.

And now, with spring break upon us, there is a general dearth of games for a bit.

If it wasn’t for a rescheduled (for the 17th time) home softball game against Concrete Tuesday, April 7 (first pitch, weather permitting, 4 PM), no Wolf squad would be playing for an eight-day period.

Both baseball and softball hit the field Friday, April 10 to play La Conner, re-kicking spring sports off.
